You asked for it,

I will try to provide MPG numbers.

In real world riding, no one rides everywhere at 90- 100 mph, using the secondary at every turn, and 90 percent of the time.

I filled the tank as i always do up to the lower rim of the fill tube.

Then i set the trip meter to Zero.

I have been riding a little here and there for a couple of days, now.

My riding criteria for this MPG test is:

1. Primary only, I know it is hard to ride around on only the primary, but that is the goal.
2. Shift point is going to be at the most efficient engine RPM between 3K RPM - 4k RPM
3. Ride the bike in a efficient manner

Note; the primary provides plenty of power, and i am not lacking any power what so ever by just riding on the Primary Only.

This will be my First tank ridden like this.

So far I have gone 85 miles, and i have only used up the first 1/4 tank, so i am still at 3/4 full tank left.

I would think the first 1/4 at the top of the tank is probably the largest 1/4 of the tank.

But That does not seem to bad, for starters.

I will update as i go, maybe give a 1/4 tank by 1/4 tank Update, to rough in some mileage numbers per each quarter tank.

This will provide me some miles driven numbers per 1/4 tank, and will tell me which sections of the tank is larger or smaller, from a Oh crap i better get gas.

I will refill when i hit the reserve tank, that will tell me how much gas is left in the reserve tank, so I can calculate miles left in reserve.

I always thought that info would be nice to have, just for general basis numbers in case i am out and need to know how many miles can i get out of that last 1/2 or last 1/4 tank till I hit the no go zone, and have to start pedaling, or use my shirt as a sail, to get me to the next gas station.
Can I make it?

I will also give full tank to empty, #'s

Joe,

Can you tell i have a lot of time on my hands?

I have to make it interesting for me to want to keep at it.

I get board if i am not challenged or kept busy, thing is i am never board as i can always find something to do that interests me.

Brian do you like Cod?

You could take them on your next fishing trip, I keep talking about it, I may try it.

Take it Rock Cod fishing, tie on 10 hooks.

With the Cod catcher you dont need the 5-10 Lbs weight, the 4 carb rack is the weight.

All that gasoiline on them I would have to really clean them well before i used them dirty things to catch food with.

I will eventually will sell my carbs maybe next year or the year after that, just to make sure.

My oem 4 carb rack runs really good.

I figure a $150.00 or so on fleece bay,

I have $350.00 into them.

$225.00 for Randaaks kit
$125.00 for another carb rack, as first one broke a jet off and could not remove it.

that was my plan one day when i was cruising along at ~ 70 mph and she started to stumble,

i then quickly found out i was already set on reserve  :head bang: :beg: :Doh2:

Good idea for the stock rack West!

If I am going to spend the cash to overhaul the stock set-up, I may as well spend the extra money to change to a single carb. I know I have a problem with my stock setup, but I need to let the bank bounce back. The 1200 I just got depleted it and I just had to get this cool 357 magnum so I can go hunting this winter, so it is just a matter of time. The nice thing is that i am working a lot of overtime right now and time and a half, plus my part time job will put money back into my slush fund in a hurry.

+ fuel for 4 leakage events due to leaving the petcock on then 4 some reason fresh floats failing

That's an ah Schlitz moment.

I keep telling my self to put a $20.00 bill on the bike somewhere.

So if i'am out and need gas moola, I will be covered lightly, but not buried.

You just reminded me that I haven't changed my Avatar.

Blasting things is fun. I mostly like semi's, but in PA it is illegal to hunt with a semi, so I needed a revolver.

At the risk of pissing Gerry off... :smilie_happy:

Thanks. I can't wait to get it registered so I can take it for some LEGAL rides around town.
Go ahead......try to get it registered!! I have a copy of a New Jersey Title that just so happens to be able to be modified to say, "1984 Honda GL1200 Standard"!! :whip: :smilie_happy:

I had a CX500 when i was 19 years old.

This happened a couple of times, was on my way to work, she started to buck flipped the reserve on, continued on to work.

I finished work road home, then next morning, she started bucking again, shozbot, she had already been changed.

You used to be able call on a call box at side of freeway they would bring you a couple gallons of gas.

If i was smart I could have seen traveled across country, and back, it would have taken a long azz time though

It would be nice if our gas gauges were actually calibrated to the quarter tank increments, but they aren't really that accurate compared to miles driven per quarter tank. It is better to do what you started; top off to the bottom of the filler neck, set the trip odometer to zero, ride till the reserve kicks in and then refill. Check the miles ridden divided by the gallons put back in and you get MPG.
