My starter died and I have had no luck in the past of rebuilding one.
I purchased this:

and took it and the starter to CLIFFS alternator and starter shop.
He said this kit would not work on my 83 GL1100 starter. The brushes are too small and the plate will not fit properly.

I just wanted to let others know just because it says it will fit--do not be disappointed when it does not fit.
Cliff just happened to have the correct parts in stock.

A refurbished starter sure makes a difference. It starts right up faster than I have ever heard a bike start.
