I want to paint my false tank.

What is the secret of getting the bigger door off the shell?

I took the screws out and the springs. Bit I can not get the door hinge past the rivited metal piece.
I do not do rivets so I do not want to tear them out.
I took the bolts out from the braces across the entire tank.
I got the little gas door off but please tell me how to get the big door off the shell.

Thank You

I did it once, but I can't remember anymore how I did it. I do remember it being a pain in the a$$ to both remove and reinstall it. If no one else comes along with an answer I'll take a look at mine tonight and see if it jogs my memory.

If you move the rubber seal out of the way it gives just enough room for the lid to clear the riveted parts. Be careful with the seal, the tiny rubber stems break easily. I used a small screwdriver to push them through from underneath.
