I had no idea there were others interested.

I've got to make 10 parts at a time so perhaps if a few emails showed up I'd move this up the "honey do" list :laptop:

Thank you for asking and I will try to make this a bigger priority. I love working with forced induction engines!

I posted your response here

any update progress for the Valkyrie/GL1500 system?

thanks.

Yes and no. I have not worked on the engine parts because there has been no time this summer. The coil testing we've been doing has been positive.
In conversations right now I think there will be three new coils, completely different design than previously used, and our old large coils will be phased out.

Since there is a serious lack of space on newer GL models the coil issue might end up resolving itself, and they are incredibly powerful.

I expect to begin work again on the adapter in October when my traveling ends.

I still don't have the new coils (I am so impatient) but here is a picture of it with the power leads installed.
One coil wire attaches to the end while the second wire attaches to the side. It's an odd shape but very small and powerful.
Power Arc will be sending me some this week. What more can a guy ask for under the Christmas tree?
We are installing a kit onto my friend's GL1200 very soon and will post photos of the coils installed.

So these are single plug coils? Requiring less space for each but one per cylinder? Eliminating wasted spark so gaining more saturation time per coil?

They are twin tower coils, still wasted spark but very small.

I am hoping these will fit the GL frames without needing coil mounts.

We don't need more saturation time...they are already running about 1/3 of the capacity to stay cool.

Advantages for the GL models are mainly size. We have some new single tower coils coming also, and you can use 4 of them on a standard Goldwing kit without upgrading electronics...but they will still be wasted spark so it really is no advantage unless you also upgrade to the C4 controller (that is single fire...not wasted spark).

Okay so the picture threw me off with only one plug tower visible. I was expecting the smaller size may have required a bit more saturation. Seems I was wrong in that too. It does look like it will fit in a smaller space.

It's a poor photo angle but here are the two towers.

Your idea of saturation is correct except with these coils that will overheat them.
We haven't updated saturation because these coils (especially on street engines) aren't even working hard.

Okay the different shape of the tower off to the side threw me. I was wondering if that was a mounting point. Is there a specific reason for the shape?

This coil was used in the automotive world so the shape was designed by someone else. Our goal (both Power Arc and C5) was to find the smallest, hottest coil we could that fit into the most cycle frames without coil mounts. That is a tall order!!

After testing dozens of coils I was sent the final selection to test on my own vehicles. Once our decision was made they were manufactured to our electrical specs and will be arriving this week.

We also have a new single tower coil that I fought really hard for (my Dutch and German heritage kicked in). It is the smallest coil I have ever held in my hand and I'm told by Power Arc that it tested well above their expectations.

Today our newest coils arrived.

After a year of work and plenty of testing we crossed the finish line!

Here are a few pictures of the dual tower on the right, compared to the smallest coils in our fleet up until today.

The new coils should be perfect for the newer Goldwings. We also have single tower coils for anyone who wants to run 4 coils.

any update for the GL1500 and Valkyrie system?

thanks

I haven't been home long enough to work on that. Between orders and travel it's been tough to get it done but I'm trying.

These will work for the 1500 and valk.

not necessarily. The ohm rating of the coils must match what the different ICMs of both bikes want. too low an ohm rating and the ICM will burn out.
The CBR1100XX Blackbird coils are slightly less ohms, will provide a little hotter/faster spark and will work with a OEM valkyrie ICM. But won't work with a Dyna ignition, which wants higher ohm coils, found that out by burning up a Dyna.

I'm interested in the new ignition system for my valkyrie as are others.

the c5 is a complete system and replaces all stock stuff and it will be matched perfect ...ive used one for yrs now ...the whole theory behind ignitions in modern bikes is flawed in my opinion ..using throttle position ..vac ..and sensor to change advance curves on the fly ...actually just makes the worst ...if timing is good for all out throttle at a certain rpm ...its best at any throttle position at that rpm ..in my opinion ...so much dumb tech out there and it dosnt even past common sense test to me ...as far as im concerned c5 is oldwing motor best setup ...and when the valk system comes out it will be the best a valk ever had in my opinion

Thank you for the encouragement. Our ignitions are very unique and only come as a complete kit with ignition, coil(s), and wires. Mismatched parts are never a problem with the C5.

Louis (GLWrench on here) was a very close friend and mentor to me. He was a master at nagging me to design more Goldwing kits and his shop was PACKED with Goldwing bikes, parts, and literature. Just as we were finishing the new universal Goldwing kit Louis became ill and died shortly after surgery. We were planning to install the first "Gen 4" kit on his friends bike the day after his passing. As you might guess, I had no interest in finishing the project and worked on tractor ignitions this entire year. We will finish the GL1500 ignition very soon, I promise, in Louis' honor!

Here is the Cushman scooter that has prototype #1 installed (crank mounted). This is not how the 1500 kit will be mounted but it was the first optically triggered multiple spark GL engine in the world. As we designed the newest ignition Louis was performing a full repaint/rewire as he stuffed the big 6 cylinder between the frame rails. We miss you man!
