I'm excited about the advances being made in L.E.D technology and with more and more being sold the price is starting to come down quickly.

At the Vegas Bikefest I couldn't help but buy this new L.E.D H4 headlight bulb.

At just 18 watts compared to incandescent at 55 watts, that's a savings of 37 watts we can do other things with.

The video shows it one way, real life is different. This bulb is very bright and not as bluish as the video and pics show. it's a good color light. I'd say about 4000 kelvin.

It casts light further down the road so I should be able to adjust the headlight up which should make the high beam more effective.

Still not cheap at $85 but I feel it's worth it to see and help be seen.

Sure is a lot better than the cheapy chinese buggers I bought. I'll use what I have until it fails though. Maybe by then the price will have dropped some.

Hopefully mine works as good as your pathfinder
Details on that one Tony?

Impressive..It would be tempting if it had a 1 year warranty and I actually could afford it...Maybe a generic alternative out there.
By the way is that comparison with a regular bulb or an H4?

It has a 1 year warranty.
Comparison is with the OEM H4.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what all is involved in installing it? Does it just replace the halogen bulb?
Thanks!
The bulb I got didn't fit right off.
Apparently our old headlight shells using the H4 bulb is different than the Harley H4, but with a bit of filing it went in.

Sounds like a plan, unfortunately slow boat from China takes a couple of weeks

ansimp--let us know how it fits and how well it works

Dan- what did you file? the shell or the bulb?
Well a bit more than light filing

The deal is the H4 plate that was in the box with the bulb had the notches in the wrong place.
O Man and I were joking the 'H' in H4 must stand for 'Harley' 4 not 'Honda' 4 :smilie_happy:

The pic shows the H4 plate (they supplied with the bulb) overlaying the stock bulb that fits, it clearly wouldn't line up with the notches in the headlight shell...

So as Dan does things, to make it work I started modding the supplied plate....
image.php

That didn't quite work as I wanted it because it would'nt sit secure into the shell so......
I took the old incandescent bulb, dremeled the outer ring off the bulb base..

Now the L.E.D bulb base sits flat and straight on the old bulb base.

Put the snap ring on to hold them both in place and screw the L.E.D bulb on to the base plate through that screw hole you see.

Awe shucks

Oh by the way, high powered LED's remove heat by way of a heatsink which this one has as well as a fan built into it.

I just checked fitment in an old unmodified fairing I have and the heatsink hits the back of the fairing but since I modded the fairing with the hole and cap when I installed the big HID bulb it fits in, so consider having to do this if your considering one of these LED bulbs.
Will be interesting to see if ansimp has the same problem.

It's doing well.
Honestly though I liked the HID more because the beam was flatter and more controlled.
LED shines outward toward the sides more. Still, it's a very good bulb.
