OK so on a ride yesterday Stella picked up a piece of steel while crossing a set of railroad tracks about 15 miles from home. :sensored:
So I put in a can of fix a flat and got her home. :beg:
It was a flat piece so I don't think a plug will work and I don't like plugs so I am looking at replacing the rear tire.
Here is my question is any suggestion on type of tires you all like or tips on changing the rear tire.
Thanks
Jerry

gee sorry to hear that ..tires i have no recommendation they all seem to wear out fast ...with shinko and bridstone being most popular....as for taking wheel off i usually after bags and all are removed....i take the final drive loose and pull wheel and final drive out together ..rather than leave it on ... as for tire i cant help so far i havnt done one by hand yet

I highly recommend the Shinko Tourmaster 230s even though Joel is not quite sure about his. Not the highest milage tire but in my experience great handling, good in the wet and excellent value for money. :good:

I like my Bridgestone S11's, but I think you have a 1200 (if I remember) and I cannot say for sure which is the best tire for a 1200. Which tire do you have and how miles on it?

Yes she is a 1986 GL1200 A
The tire that I am replacing is a Dunlop elite II 491 MV85B15MC 77H All I can say about mileage is it was on the bike when I got her at about 54,000 and now is at 59,000 and would probable still running except for a chunk of steel.
I was thinking of the same tire but I think they are a bit pricey (and yes I know you get what you pay for most times)
And thanks to all those who replied.
Jerry

LOL, tire suggestions... Gerry and I highly recommend the Bridgestone S11s. Not sure why some are so sold on Shinkos, Joel among others have had trouble with those.

Maybe I need to post some more videos for you Randy

Look at load ratings. Make sure you get one that is rated for heavier load.... ... the great of the luggage comes off.. ie center section ... and when the final is disconnected or just moved aside the tire and wheel comes straight out back..after disabled don't forget the right front brake needs bleeding also...

Well Tony's driveway is hardly a fair test for any tire.

That was a joke Tony :whistling:
....... :hihihi: sheesh

ok im tonys number 1 fan ...i wish i could ride that well ...we all have our best traits ...driveways are the key thing here ...the worse driveway you have the better rider you are ...tonys got us all beat there ... :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

Not his riding! :smilie_happy: the crack about his driveway. I meant to imply that his driveway shortened tread life and only just now realized he got good tread life with a Shinko and that joke is completely wrong... Sometimes I'm an idiot.

What was this thread about again, I'm so confused.

I'll just back on out the door.

Carry on.

Me not getting the Joke
I think some lady called Stella ended up flat!! :smilie_happy:

I saw a you tube the other day about changing bike tires with cable ties and bare hands. Looked pretty doable for the average guy. Cheaper than getting fleesed buy the dealer. Install dynabeads and your good to go.
