I've brought this up before and here I am again because I never got an answer.

I'm commuting on the freeway now to a sister facility for work. The freeway I have to use is a fast one, where speeds are almost always 80 Mph. The pace does slow as one approaches the "Spaghetti Bowl" from any direction.

Here's the issue, when I back off the throttle at 80 Mph I feel/hear something like the motor is missing at a super fast rate, I give it just a tiny bit more throttle and it instantly smooths out.

As I write this I realize it happens when I throttle down from 50 Mph too.

What is it? ignition, carbs, something else?

I'm not really sure on this on but I'm going to have my carbs synced next spring cause there is just too much hesitation, lacking throttle response. just came to me, you might want to have your vac lines checked
 
Might be ignition or carbs. Or the ecu not adjusting to the drop in rpm. I agree you should check the vacuum lines. I suppose another possibility is the carb slides may hang at the higher rpm. Does the 1500 have air valves?
 
I will ask GLWrench to reply. I know when he performs yearly services on GL1500's that much time is spent checking hoses. I remember him pointing out certain ones that are prone to leakage.
My guess would not be ignition but let's get him involved and see what the guru has to say.
 
Thanks for the replies guys. It's frustrating that the bike rides so perfectly at all other times. I may be being a little nit-picking because it is a subtle issue, but I do notice it, a lack of perfection in an otherwise perfectly powerful smoothly running machine.

it where the gas charge and load are right at the same causing a kind of flutter feel in motor .. sometimes at this point ...like the motor dosnt know if it pushing bike or backing off ...

LOL... but really "flutter" does describe the feeling better but I'll keep those vacuum lines in mind. I remember an article about one near the carb that makes a 90 degree turn that can fail.

Throtal flutter was a common problem with older well used CV SU's and Strombergs. The most often found problem is on the vacuum side, I had this same problem on a Volvo 145s estate I had years ago with twin Strombergs. One of the vacuum rubbers had a small split in it, as it was split so close to the mount it was very difficult to see. So you could look there. By just adding a touch of extra twist you would stop the fluttering of the vacuum chamber, this would result in both (in my case) carbs equalising. In the case of 4 CV carbs one of the four or multiples thereof. The secret is in the name Constant Velocity, one is not constant.

That is funny, many people wouldn't know what a Jake Brake is, just don't think it would be a good idea on a motorcycle.

Interesting thread, I do know vacuum lines can cause some strange problems, and many times be very hard to find.
