A ride-off would be nice. With two artificial hips, I find it very difficult to put on the center stand anyways. So mine are ten lbs lighter. I know I get some perplexed looks when I lean it right around other bikers. If you have seen how much oil can accumulate in the valve covers, then you know the same can happen in the jugs. How much depends a little on where the piston stops.

+1 on the ride off stand! One of the best investments made for my bike yet! It is really handy for connecting up my trailer because the bike tire is already on the ground and the hitch is at riding level. To get it up on the stand, I just pull back with my foot on it easy peasy! Ride off is great!

That is the Bates Ride Off Stand as opposed to the Markland Ride Off Stand which replaces your original center stand.

I am going to shift these comments to another thread since the ride off stand is a good topic to discuss!

Yea the Bates..They make them for all models at least to the 1200`s I think but some have a wider stance for bikes with floorboards...the bates are adjustable to the height of the bike which is nice...the 1000 are all the same,1100,and 1200 are all different though, as well I believe(may be wrong) there is one for the 1100 with lower cowling(dressed model) or naked..maybe so for the 1200 since it came naked too.

So how do you park with one of these? On the bike, back up? Or stand beside it and back up, or press down like stock stands?
I stop my bike upright, shut down my engine with the kill switch (which for whatever reason shuts down the engine much smoother than using the key switch), put down my side stand and climb off.

Off the bike (with the side stand down for safety), I put the bike back upright while pushing down on the ride off stand until both sides of the stand make contact on the ground.

Then I pull back very gently on the left grip while holding the stand with my foot and the bike practically rolls back and up onto the stand by itself with very little effort. (about 1/3rd the effort or less than trying to get up on the bike's actual centerstand.)

To get off, I start the bike, go to 1st and just let the clutch out at idle and it pulls right up and off we go! :moped:

I mentioned earlier that I have a Marland ride off stand that took the place of my original center stand, but it is actually made for an '80-'81 model with the larger wheels. It sits too high to let the back tire of my '82 make enough contact to ride off. It would work great for an '80-81.

That was a nice feature on my old Tiger, :good: with a good rear tire one could ride off the center stand with ease. So well balanced you could change either tire on the center stand, by leaning forward or rearward to access which ever one being changed. :whistling:

Looks like you would have three choices, if you could keep the center stand. :headscratch: Think they would have sold, & sell them still sell them, as they look like a nice option. Sad to say that until a few years ago never knew about them. Have never seen one on a bike. :nea: Did not know who made them, if they were still available new, or if they even fit my bikes. Ok Slabghost, saw your post when i went to post. Could use 3, of them for my 1200's, & 1, for my 1500 when you get it down to a finished product. :read: Post the dimensions & I'll build my own.

Will do when I have the first in operation. I have some tubing here already so once the weather breaks I'll get started. But my "to do " list is huge!

Understood! The older we get, the longer the list, :hihihi: & the shorter the time. :whistling:

Finally,
These things are as we say down in Texas: "as scarce as hen's teeth".
I have watched, waited, and looked for one these exact centerstands ever since I saw yours and one popped up on Ebay.
Bargained it down to less than half of his original asking price and now it is on its way to me.
It looks so much more stable and user friendly than the O.E. centerstand. :yahoo:
