Just picked up a 1985 Honda goldwing 1200 limited about 2 weeks ago. I knew about the stator issue with it so I started using Google and found out about the conversion kit. Figured I'd better become a member of one of the forums now as it's going to be a nice project to work on and I'm sure I'll have questions. I was always a crotch rocket fan, owned a couple cruisers though. I had suzuki gs550e and an old 750 Hondamatic. Now it's time for me to give a goldwing a try.

How it looks now (haven't done the conversion yet, just wanted to see what pieces are missing and how many fairing screws are missing

Thanks Omega Man. I've been trying to find a place that caries fairing screws and parts, figured this would be a great start here. I will do a search and get some reading done. Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome from SoCal! That's a very nice bike! I've built a 1200 fuel injected engine on a stand - I hope yours runs as well as it does! Ebay is your true friend for these projects!

Welcome. She looks real nice..Congrats on the buy. I have been a biker just about all my life and I am on my first wing. Definitely a different bike but once they are right they are good for a long time..Just look for worn and neglected parts and replace them.
I have come to realize many of these older wings were just ridden and never really maintained as they should have been.
You didn't say if the stator was bad? They did have an issue that was resolved and most older bikes have had them fixed so I wouldn't go replacing it unless it needs done, the alternator conversion I think is just as costly and time consuming as pulling the motor and putting in a new stator.
If you need to do carb you might just as well drop the engine carbs and all just to make it easier...Just my opinion but a new stator with a Mosfet regulator would be an easier option if your stator is bad.
Good luck.

You "Welcome" thread has been split. You can find your Stator discussion in the 1200 section under the title "Stator bad?" No harm or foul we just usually don't let welcome threads get this technical. :hi:

Rear shocks question...
I want to keep it as close to stock as possible, so air shocks is a must. Anyone have any good info on what I should use (brand, model, any adaptor kits)?

Either rebuild what you have or Progressive's: 412's for non-air and 416's for air... I think.

Excellent, thanks for the info. Turns out that I can manually push air to the rear shocks and they hold, just won't hold what the on board compressor puts in. Back to the drawing board.
