Former '82 GL1100 "The Slug"
Once our '81 1100 is finished, we are going to put her up for sale. For those that have sold bikes, which venue do you believe produced the best sales? I am thinking between Ebay and Craig's List but am open to any other suggestions.

I see Ebay will be charging a 10% sale commission fee on the final sale.

Why not just advertise at all available venues. Many ebay auctions are also local listed so may end suddenly. Ten percent is a pretty big hit on top of sales tax.

Mount it on the bow of a boat with a for sale sign on it! :smilie_happy:

Plus Ebay charges a hefty fee for listing Motorcycles and Cars, it's kind of hit and miss on sales, I listed a custom motorcycle , only got a $500 bid, Re- listed it ONE week later it sold for $4,400 ???

If you do CL you will get e-mails asking to see a vin report. They want it from a specific site.
Tell them you will get it and they can see it when they come to see the bike. They want you to e-mail it to them.

Just tell them when they come to see the bike they can see the report. Get the report only when they show up. You will never see them.

VIN report from a special site? Sounds like a scam.

There are at least 2 (maybe more now) sites. The radio show here has talked about the differences between the two. Someone might have a preference. Radio guy relates he was buying a car, ran VIN on both sights and one turned up major incident, one didn't. Carfax and Autocheck, we used Autocheck at the lot, it reported more information.

Yes it is a scam..
That is what I was saying.

CL is the only place I have had this occur. 4 different people wanting the vin report and all were never heard from again when I told them they could see it when they see the bike.
This happened when I was selling the Valkyrie.

I finally sold it from sitting out in my yard with a for sale sign on it.

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best! Throw a for sale sign on it during nice sunny (good riding) days for those that need a ride fix ASAP!

CL and CycleTrader (I think it's still free.)

I used CycleTrader to sell my CB750K. Good result.

Recently I sold CT90 on CL. I got a few scam interests.
They told me they would come to look so I gave my address/phone number over CL email relay.
Once they get that, no further contacts from them.

It's kinda difficult to tell from leget interests.
I think the best way to proceed is to ask the potential buyers to give you their phone numbers through CL email relay system.
Then you call them.

I like to speak to buyers/sellers as you can at least get half an idea if they are legit.

VIN report from a special site? Sounds like a scam.

Either is only as good as the info that's reported to them.

A vehicle could have suffered a major crash or a theft but if it'snot reported to any/all sites, it will never appear on any list.

Far as I know there is no law saying that anyone has to report anything.
