A lot of factors effect average fuel mileage. City, highway, country roads, hills and the way you ride will all affect it. My 83 averages 47 right now, but that is mostly country roads in the Sierra foothills, very little city riding. There is a thread on here about fuel mileage.

the only thing that's really gets super bad mileage is the truth ....

Well then in that case, I am getting about 70 mpg divided by 2. :smilie_happy:

There are so many factors that effect mpg.
Full dress or naked,
Windshield height,
Rider weight,
Speed,
Terrain, level roads?
Carb conditions,
Spark strength and timing,
Compression,
Does the trip meter read accurate?

One things for sure, it's hard to get real comparisons without side by side rides.

my 1980 when it was still a 2 wheeler , got around 42 all the time. . . and the 1983 gets about 45 , riding same Tn. country roads . very little interstate riding . .

I'd like to see the result using the mpg run methods used in these highest mpg contests. Start gain speed and coast. I'm far too throttle addicted to try it myself.

Me too! I like the way the motor sounds above 4,000 as you are getting ready to shift.
