and you will never have to work a day in your life." Mark Twain

Right after I retired from the Navy, I had a job with the American Red Cross as an Emergency Services Director. I enjoyed the work because it involved a lot of planning and response to any number of problems. The one thing that was difficult about the position was supporting a family and putting two sons through College on a non-profit organization income, so I had to go, but I always enjoyed the work, and missed it.

This past October I took a promotion here at the local VA Medical Center to a Secretary’s position because, well for lack of a better reason, I was stagnant for three years in the same old rut and couldn’t get out of it. I was over qualified for the position I was in, but it was a foot in the door. Promotions are few and far between, so I took one when I saw it, but to be honest, I never really considered myself a Secretary. Sure I held a position as an Office Manager, but Office Manager and Secretary are two completely different jobs. I figured I would do my time and then eventually move on again…

A few weeks ago, a position within the Safety Department, as the Emergency Management Specialist opened up and, holy cow - I had enough time in grade to apply for it. Well there is proof that even a blind nut will find a squirrel eventually. :smilie_happy: I got the job. I get to go back to doing a job I really enjoy, so is it really considered work? I take a week off for a trip to Canada to freeze my butt off next week and then I start my new position the week after. Life is good for a while.

Congrats on the new job. my job isn't all that enjoyable but tormenting the mental midgets there is fun.

Someone's got to be in the 5% here that has a job that doesn't feel like work! Congratulations Brian :good:
