Nice work! I admire you guys that can work with any medium.

~O~
If you would have seen the gong show last night you probably wouldn't be too impressed. First of all the fumes are enough to kill you but knowing that isn't enough to make me wear my mask. Did the whole thing up with the fibreglass and resin and cursing, spilling stuff and everything sticking to everything else. Then I waited for it to harden up...and I waited. Didn't put enough hardener in :head bang: so then I took the whole sticky mess off, put it in the garbage and gave up till this morning.

Went better this morning.

Great work :good: Will we soon be able to order Canuckxxxx shortie rear fenders?
Y'know, that is why I am not rich...never even thought of that.

This mould is a little rough. Will just give me a raw fender that I will have to do quite a bit of sanding and filling. But if I made a mould from the finished fender then that might give an almost ready to paint fender. Will have to see.

I don't think making things from fibreglass is very health even if you wear a mask because of the fumes.

Well I was away all last week in Vancouver visiting family. So I am itching to get back to the seat/cowl thing. Speaking of itching...my brother-in-law used to make fibreglass boats and gave me quite a bit of the FG cloth. Very nice stuff; the one is the same stuff I had for the fender mould but he had some real heavy duty stuff with real coarse weave. I will try that on the cowl.

Brian

That resin I used for the fender mould is an ugly yellow but if I could get some nice clear stuff and let the coarse weave show through sort of like carbon fibre it might look cool.

Well I made the rear fender today. Only 2 layers of FG so a bit flexy but good enough to see how things will line up (I will add a couple more layer later). Also my tail light came last week when I was away. So I thought I would put it on the bike, attach the TL with tape. Had to cut the back of the seat pan off.

I would like to see what you guys think. Do you think the licence plate is at too much of an angle?

Thanks for your indulgence.
Brian

Dan, I just cut the pan hump along the recess and it came out the shape of the TL but I like the way it looks too.

The hump at the back of the seat pan seems too high but I hate to cut it off because it is such a good anchor point for the back of the cowl. I might look at mounting the TL higher nearer the top of the hump.

Trouble is, every time I look at it I get a different idea.

Brian

If you make the rear cowl as high as the highest point of the seat and curve down to the tail light it should look pretty good. As long as the law can read the license plate most places don't really car the angle.

I think that is a great suggestion Slabghost. I was thinking of the front of the cowl starting at the base of the back of the "backrest". Sort of like this :nea: :

But after what you said I am thinking of having the front of the cowl even with the top of the "backrest" like this. I think it looks better :eek:k: :

I like the second pic.
+1 might even be able to fit an emergency beer in there :salute:

Second pic looks almost like the rear cowl on my 78 KZ. I use that space for a few tools and a pair of gloves. I like the look.

I said that I was going to mount the TL on the fender so I wouldn't have to unplug the wiring every time I take the seat off. But the way the TL sits relative to the hump in the seat pan it would be hard or maybe impossible to slide the seat into the receptacle at the back off the shelter. You need a couple of inches of straight slide. So I think I will mount the TL into the hump of the seat pan. Maybe I can fix the plug so it's real easy to plug/unplug or put extra long wires.
