    Engine knock

Well I have blue loctite and brake cleaner so that's what I'll try until I open up the front.

    OK I'll try that.

    Engine knock

Hi all, my engine developed a knock and I couldn't find the problem. I tried syncing the carbs but it still knocked. So I went to adjust the valves and when I went to take off the adjustment cap from the back of the stator housing it was gone, so was the 12x40 bolt. So I went to order a new bolt...

    Carburetor adjustment

Hmm, I just might have to try that. While I'm at it, I noticed inside of the intake chamber of each carburetor there are four tiny dots in a diamond pattern. When the flap is closed all the way the edge covers the outermost dot, when opened slightly the edge lines up with the two dots that are...

    Carburetor adjustment

Thanks, I know how to adjust the carbs but the problem is that the adjustment screw on #1 is not working. It will turn in/out but has no effect. I believe it's either the screw is striped or the flap is stuck. I won't know for sure until I pull the S.o. b.'s out. Right now it starts and runs but...

    Carburetor adjustment

Jeff, would you happen to know the size of the feeler gauge? I thought about using a feeler gauge but just wasn't sure of what size.

    Carburetor adjustment

Atf to fuel? What will that do.

    Carburetor adjustment

Well, I guess I'll have to take em out. The hard part for me is getting them out, the harder part is diagnosing the problem, the hardest part is getting them back in, (connecting the throttle cables) . The bike is still running strong enough for now so I'll probably do it in the winter. Thanks...

    Carburetor adjustment

No not the pilot screw, the screw used for syncing adjustment.

    Carburetor adjustment

Hi, I have discovered a problem with my #1 carb. It is opening when I open the throttle but when I try to adjust it, it doesn't do anything. I could turn the adjustment screw either way and it doesn't respond. I know I will probably have to remove the carbs to figure this out. Has anyone else...

    Rear axle

I found on Goldwing docs others are talking about this same issue. I found a part number for the spacer( 42312-mb9-000 and it applies only to 82 & 83 so as surprising as that may be, what I have is 100% correct. No spacer between the swingarm and caliper bracket. Hooray!

    Rear axle

That sums it up. The 1980 model didn't have an outer spacer. The part does not exist. I have all of the parts that are shown in the diagram. Sorry to make a big deal out this but I just wanted to be sure. Some say it's supposed to have a spacer, but I think that was on later models. Thanks for...

    Rear axle

Thanks for the reply, is there any danger of not having a spacer? The only reason I'm asking is, I have driven the bike without a spacer for hundreds of miles and counting.and the rear wheel is solid, there has been no shifting or movement of any kind. Like I said in an earlier post the only...

    Rear axle

The only picture I can find of this is in the manual. The picture shows no spacer between the swingarm and caliper bracket. I took a ride and the bike rode like new. The shock rebuild was easier than I thought. The rear wheel is solid, there is no wobble or shimmy. I think I'll put a few hundred...

    Rear axle

I did a little more looking and I found a picture in the manual. It's the only one I could find. It looks like it's supposed to be like that. The number 3 part is in. I put #3 then flat washer then the bracket. Then drove the axle in till it was seated. This is the way I bought the bike, well...

    Rear axle

That's what I was thinking. But when I looked at the diagram blowups it shows only the inner spacer. I have the inner spacer in the hub, then the washer, then the caliper bracket. That's the way I've been riding it for 5 years. I can't seem to find any photos of the 1980 all I can find is 82 and...

    Rear axle

Hi, I just finished installing the rear wheel and noticed a space between the swingarm and the caliper bracket. Everything is torqued to spec. Is this space something that I should worry about? Is something missing?

    Rear shock absorber bushings

I really can't complain, the shocks are 36 years old. The only thing I was worried about was not having any experience with these problems. It's always worse in my head.
