Need help ... No spark ...

No, no oscilloscope ... And it sucks to even try and swap in known good parts ... I have to pull the engine to do it and if that's the case, I might as well get the C5 and be done with it ... I still have this weekend to figure it out :)

Need help ... No spark ...

That's actually the test given in the factory shop manual. The full procedure is to check for battery voltage at the blue/yellow wire for the 3-4 coil and yellow for the 1-2 coil at the respective spark unit. Then ground the corresponding pulse wire (I forget the colors) and look for the voltage...

Need help ... No spark ...

I want to thank you all for your quick responses .... Still can't get it to fire. I'm going to go through the whole system again front to back this weekend. The one thing that puzzles me is that I can get a spark if I ground the appropriate wire in the pulse generator harness. For example, if I...

I have ran through every test in the shop manual and every piece of equipment passes. for example, the pulse generator passed it's ohm test at 545-570 Ohms. The coils pass both primary...

    '83 Aspy wiring question...

Yea, I did not solder these ... I do sometimes take the insulated crimp type fittings and remove the plastic insulation from the bottom of the fitting, then solder the wire to that with out crimping or a very slight crimp if needed then finish with a bit of heat shrink ... They look so much...

83 interstate and aspencade do they use different wiring harnesses?

From my experience working on my '83 Aspy, aside from the basic functions for ignition and such, they have completely different wiring harnesses ... I just got done swapping out my digital dash for analog gauges; the opposite of what you want. I had to swap out the top tree to fit the gauges as...

    '83 Aspy wiring question...

I do believe they sell crimpers like these at Radio Shack, but I got my set from Amazon a while ago .. I do a lot of electrical work on my old machines :)

    '83 Aspy wiring question...

If anyone is interested, here is an update on my '83 Aspy ... So this is what I started with ... A POS that I picked up from my buddy .... Now, I picked up a few of these connectors at Radio Shack. They make doing the wiring harness so much better that soldering and tape .... With the...

    '83 Aspy wiring question...

Oh yea Dan ... It was ridiculous ... I had to swap the top triple tree to an '82 to fit the new gauge cluster, then install an older fuel pump so I can run the mechanical tach and use an older mechanical speedo drive for the cable driven speedo ... and add all that wiring mess on top, I think if...

    '83 Aspy wiring question...

Sweet .... That's just what I did and it worked... So, now I have an analog gauge cluster grafted on my aspy where the digital dash was and everything that is needed works .... It might look like a crazy nightmare, but I am so freaking happy ... Finally got the front end wiring straighten...

    '83 Aspy wiring question...

So, long story short, I acquired my aspy for not a lot of dollars and I'm trying to get her on the road. Part of that process is going naked so I removed the front fairing and assorted baggage and am converting to standard trim ... I removed the digital dash and am swapping in an analog gauge...

    New guy from Philly ...

So I'm here saying hello ... I've been round bikes most of my life and am not half bad with a wrench (if I say so myself :whistling: ) ... Picked up a 1983 Aspy for cheap money and am now in the process of getting her running ... Hoping to get some guidance here and contribute what little I...
