    Intermittent Starter Problem

:help: I posted earlier about the problems I was having with my starter, and thought I'd go into a bit more detail to see if anyone has any suggestions. I ride an '83 Wing Interstate 1100, which is (mostly) stock. A few bits and pieces of lighting have been added over the years, but thats...

What did you do to your Wing today ?

Nothing major......changed out a burnt-out headlight bulb. You think they could have made it a LITTLE easier to get at, instead of burying everything the way they did. But it's done, and works, so I guess I'm not totally incompetent. :smilie_happy:

What did you do to your Wing today ?

Thanks Slab, I appreciate the offer. 'Barney' is a 1980 KZ750 which has been somewhat customized. Right now I think the problem is the starter....it's off the bike, and we are going to take it in for a rebuild. After that and after I figure out how to get it back on (how hard can it be?) we'll...

What did you do to your Wing today ?

Yeah, he cost us a lot over the winter. Wife took her bike in to him and said 'it won't start'......and when that is fixed, needs a new chain and sprocket, etc etc etc. Guess what.....he fixed everything BUT the original problem.....nice to have a shiny new chain and sprocket, fresh oil, etc...

What did you do to your Wing today ?

Took 'The Pig' out for a bit of a spin.....now that I'm thinking of pulling the starter of course she behaved perfectly. The fear of my fumble-fingers in her guts probably scared another 2-3 months of life into her :-) Took the wife with me as well....I bought her a new ride; 2004 HD Sportster...

    starter motor

I'm having much the same problem with my starter.....works fine initially, but after riding when she's hot, will barely turn over at all. No clicking, no nothing. I watched a few videos on how to pull and rebuild a starter, doesn't look TOO complicated (well, I would probably farm out the...

    Greetings from Lucan, Ontario

Thanks for the welcome guys, and yes, I plan on starting some miuch-needed maintenance this week. Starter is (probably) the first thing to be done. I am pretty sure I can get it off, and then I will send it out for a rebuild. Still learning my way around this site; is there a quick link on how...

A simple request. (Be warned, it could be scary.)

Not a lot of pictures of me, but if you're brave enough to look, I'm brave enough to post.

What are you LISTENING to right now?

Listening to the sounds of my tank getting trashed again and again in World of Tanks....how many times am I gonna get blown away tonite?

    Greetings from Lucan, Ontario

Thanks Slab....i'm sure that between all the members here, you've seen pretty much everything that can happen to a 'Wing. Wish I'd come here instead of trusting my baby to a certain 'mechanic' over the winter. To say he butchered her would be kind.....and unfortunately the only bike shops...

Thanks for the welcome, Ansimp. I've seen a few of her sisters around, but they're getting fewer and fewer as the years go by.

    Greetings from Lucan, Ontario

New member here, riding an '83 Goldwing Interstate named 'The Pig'. I've had her for about 4 yrs now......been a challenge at times keeping her running, but hopefully with the help of some of the gearheads here, I'll be able to continue for another few years without buying a new(er) one.
