As we all know I have another 83 1100.

Now I am back to doing a conversion.
I can not find an alternator that I used the first time around.

Can any one tell me if this alt wil work?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/112134809734?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

I have not gotten around to ordering a pulley yet. Will probably take the blue prints up the end of this week to get it made. Any one want a pullet made while I am getting this one made?

Thanks for letting me know if you think this alt will work. OR do you know which one will work. I want to avoid a one wire alt.

Looks to be a good size and design for this conversion. Made for some very small vehicles.

I used one made for the Geo Metro. That was on a 1200, but should be the same physical requirements dimensionally.

I search the numbers and it's comes back as 55 amp so I think judging by that the frame size should be smallish.

Dan so you are saying that this alternator will not fit in the 1100? As the alt being too big to fit in the bike frame??

I knew this was a 55 amp.

You will have to cut one of those ears off, though.

Does any one see a problem of putting the pulley on the left cam instead of the center bolt from the engine?
This would alleviate pushing the radiator out .

2 reason I wouldn't use the cam to drive it. Turns way too slow, and puts a lot of extra stress on the cam belt.
Believe it or not, an alternator asked to put out 40 to 50 amps takes quite a bit of force to turn the alt pulley at speed.

Not only that covers/ guards become an issue and you are putting more stress on the cam seal and bearing. :(

Not to mention it would be ugly as all heck. Besides, why the reluctance to push out the rad a bit? It's not really that big a deal. The biggest hassle was getting a hose to fit.
