I am installing an alternator on my 83 1100. Been there and done it but doing it again.

How does the washer go back on? The one that sits against the trans belt. I am using a pulley made from the plans of the pulleys we got from LB.

The pulley has a step up to go into the key way. The washer will not go back on because of the step. How did we do this the last time around?

Trans belt? Timing belt? My memory can be faulty at times but I believe the washer has a beveled edge that rides toward the belt. Flat side away from the belt.

Thanks Dan If the hole is drilled to fit the pulley--what keeps the washer in place? I would think it would slide on up the pulley and not keep the belt in place.

I will probably have a few more questions before this is completed.

Thanks for the help.

Can any one tell me the diameter of the frame where the blue tape is attached? I want to put a split ring hanger there to put the adjuster for the alt. I do not have a micrometer.

fit a crescent wrench over the pipe and measure between the jaws. Close measurement is good enough.

Oh I was thinking this was a good excuse to buy a caliper :smilie_happy:

Adjustable wrenches were my calipers for many years! :smilie_happy:

Time to do the wiring. Please guide me.

The "s" wire I can plug into the black wire of the regulator/rec. Correct?
The "ig" wire needs to be switched. Where can I attach this wire?
"b" goes directly to the battery W/ a fuse.
"L" goes to the idiot light and I will not use.

Pull the "ig" wire from the accessory screw on the fuse panel.

"S" may be best with a new wire to the battery positive but simply connecting it to the "B" post on the alternator might work fine.

Or new wire to the battery side of the starter solenoid. You can also loop the sense wire to the B terminal for convenience. I don't like using fuses in the battery output lead as they need to be high amperage like your alternator.
