At this time I just have to install the rad and finish up the wiring. I went to the local pawn shop and picked up an impact wrench. It sure made getting the crank bolt out easy. All things have gone well so far. :yahoo:

I love the idea of that, but can you still fit the lowers?

There is no cutting or bending of the plastic (at least on a 1100). Everything fits as before the install.
The only place that gets cut is the heat shield, where the alternator fits.
Plus the radiator fan.

When I converted my 1200, minor modification to the lower was required on the left side. I would assume the same applies to the 1100.

External alternator mounted this way may not require lower modifications.

Interesting concept, but the aesthetics aren't that great. I had to take a heat gun to lower left fairing on mine to move the plastic a bit. Never know from looking at it. Heat gun was recommended over on GWDocs.

Cheers

That way of installing and driving an external is probably the simplest but the extra load on the Cam belt isn't a good idea imo.
