Just an got a carb base gasket, from RockAuto, for an '84 Ford Escort, 1.6L. It is the correct gasket for a Weber DFT 32/32 carb, which I have on my '82 GW. It cost $3.81 cad so about $3.00 usd. It is pretty thick (5/16") which, I guess is good for heat isolation.

Question: My manifold has an open hole where the carb feeds into it. My new gasket has 2 holes for the 2 barrels. Should I cut the middle part of the gasket out to match the manifold? I'm thinking...what if, I don't, and the middle (unsupported) part of the gasket deteriorates and falls into the intake and then engine :shock:
 
No need to cut out the center. It'll hold near forever! I 'm still reusing the same gasket on my 86 ford. Shouldn't need heat once it's adjusted right.

Went on RockAuto site to look at Escort intake manifolds and stumbled onto this spacer with an electric heater. Might be just the ticket for cold weather running. :music:

Did you purchase one of these?

No I didn't. My manifold is heated with engine coolant flowing through a chamber under the manifold. Has been working very well for three years. :moped:

But I know there were others who were looking at electric heaters like that one.
