So I have this electric fuel pump for several months now.
It's for Honda Prelude.
It got some sort of sensor in it and stops pumping around 3PSI.
When I turn the ignition on, it clicks rapidly until the fuel fills the carb (20 clicks or so).
Once the engine starts and idles, it clicks every second or so, nice and steady.

Now this just happened yesterday. It was a warm day (high 80s) and after 15 minutes or so of freeway run.

The pump was clicking (pumping) crazy like a failing heart in need of a pace maker..
I didn't notice any sign of fuel starvation however. Just a very noisy fuel pump.

Should I be worried?
I have 4 hour freeway run coming up this Saturday. I don't want to get stranded again..

My electric does that if I forget to turn on the fuel or if it's sucking air.
I put on a see through filter so I can see how much crap is in it.
Could it be the tank pickup screens or tank valve are getting clogged on yours?

I have see thru fuel lines. Filter is the same age as the pump (several months).
I saw some bubbles in them when it happened.
Not sure about in-tank filters and a tap. I need to destroy them to check, right?

The thing is that it doesn't do it when cold. This morning I turned on ignition and it works as before (several clicks to fill the carb, then stop)..

did you get to put a inline pressure guage between the pump and carb on that hot rod?

Yes, pressure gauge is between the pump and carb. I have a T there and the gauge is connected to the end of the line.

as long as you keep fuel pressure, i would'nt worry about it, some times heat will make air due to expansion in the fuel system. I would think that is what is going on with it as it works as normal when it isn't hot!the way i am, i would carry a spare pump in the bag!(that way ya never need it) and grab a hand full of throttle with a smile! Happy Easter and Good Luck

I think it was a heat.
I went out and did the exact same route.
Today the temp was around 75F and it didn't do it.
As I went into my garage and shut down the engine, it started clicking crazy again.
Then I blew cold air with a fan and it went away.

I attached the pump to the brackets which were attached to intake elbow bolts.
So the heat from the head probably over-heated the pump. It got worse after I got off the freeway and stopping at the light.

Now the pump is mounted to engine guard and runner pipe so hopefully remain cooler.

Probably right, heat is causing it.
The 1200 pump I have ticks like once a second at idle when cold then fast clicks once hot.

So you have the same problem with 1200 pump?

I think so but it does pump gas fine.
I might try moving it off the engine like you did.
