Hi guys  , I started to work on my 1982 GL500 :builder: . I got this bike for free and it's in bad shape. I started work on the motor and finish the other day ( pictures before after ) it came out pretty good :good: . I had to take it apart, the cassings where leaking, seems to be one of there problems. So my winter project is on it's way. I know it's not a gold wing, but it is a GL 500 half a Wing LOL :hihihi: .

Fess up! You had a NOS engine laying around. :Doh2:

Just kiddin, it looks great and so does the frame from that after pic.

~O~
Thanks, what you see is not the frame but the exhaust pipes, they where powder coated.

Purty when they're clean and fresh like that.

What does that chrome tube above the GL500 label do?
Hi Dan, that tube is for the cooling from the rad to the pump.

I loved my cx I had good little.. he he.. bike.. the laugh is there because it is 500.. it still was a solid bike.. and felt like it was... handled great good pick up... I had mine until a couple of dogs showed up on the interstate at night on my way to work...hit both one in the back side and the other in the head... knocked fork out of alignment... and down we went .. bike 80 feet me 200 ft.. it was at 65 mph .. learned to love full face helmets because of that... I was wearing one...

How did you get the engine block to look so good?
Painted it?
Hi Dan, no paint just sand blast with glass beads.

I know I'm kind of late to this party, but I'd like to add my voice to the chorus saying this is wonderful work. In fact this approach with the polish versus black is something I might try in the not-too-distant future. I already have a candidate, but I cannot speak it's name on this forum.

Nicely done. If the OP is still around, it'd be nice to see the finished; complete project...

Beautiful work on that GL500. Is that the standard or the interstate? I would love to see more pics.

I own a GL500 Interstate myself, and plan on doing some restoration on it this summer. In fact I bought my GL1100 so I would have something to ride this summer while I work on reconditioning my "little" Silverwing.

Hi guys, I got a few more pictures as the bike is being assembled. I still have some work to do, but it's getting there.
