front light bulb for gl1100

What bulb would work on 83 gl1100 from this listing?

Is there anything else needed to use this?

You will use an H4 style bulb and a 6K bright, suppose you could go brighter but the bulb gets bluer, 6K is close to white(hint of blue), 5K is white.
By the way, you know with this kit you will lose your high beam..Bi Xenon will have the high and low but uses a hood for low and the hood retracts for high..Uses more watts to do this so no real power savings with Bi-Xenon.

I am not concerned on saving power as I have the poorboy conversion on the bike.
As far as the high beam- I just installed these on the bike so I do not really need a high beam any longer.

It seems like they draw an aweful lot of current for the 55 watt bulb, unless that's total current to drive both of them.
I would question that.

3000 hrs average life isn't a lot either in a day that LED's are averaging 30,000 hrs+.

I'm just leary of hid after having mine die after such a short time.

This is the one I prefer and I have had over 2 years service in Red without a starter timer, so every start they flick on and off.

I would not use 55w HIDs even if you aren't worried about lower power consumption, I would stick with 35ws because of less heat.
The kit I recommend is one that gets its power from the battery and only uses the headlight circuit as a trigger. As Jeff said the bi Xeon lights move the bulb position ( electro mechanically, the older ones a hood) for a high-low effect and some have had problems with the hood failing in the past ( most new type just move the bulb position now)

Dan has his new LED bulb and I have ordered a much cheaper version from China so hopefully this will be the next generation of improved lighting. Red has 2 bulbs so I am thinking of running the LED as well as the current Hid ( I am currently using an incandescent as the second light (stock)).

Well after this HID dying, I will never recommend buying any brand bulb of any type.
I'll only give my true opinion of it's performance when it is working :smilie_happy:

Was the 82 still working when you sold it Steve? That had the cheap $12 one the same that finally failed in the Rats Nest before I replaced it with the battery wired model. :yes:
