Did the initial test fire on the GL 1000 and rode around it around the neighborhood.

The good news is it runs, the brakes work great.

The bad news is sorta aggravating.

It only runs on the front 2 cylinders and is huffing raw fuel fumes out the pipes. From the 2 dead cylinders.

The clutch plates are stuck and get no disengagement from the drivetrain.

The stupid reserve lighting module is bad I had to jump around it for a headlight.

The tachometer or temp gauge in it do not work.

and some other small stuff..........................grumble, grumble, gripe, gripe.

Well it's a better start than some of us have. Reserve lighting unit was a bad idea from the beginning. Maybe the clutch will break loose when you have all 4 cyl firing.

I know, just sort of grumping, I had high hopes it would run better out the gate. After being parked over ten years I guess it should be no real surprise.

 :builder: :moped:

Just remember, :headscratch: if it still ran well, someone else would be riding it! :salute:

Anybody have a good source for OEM type replacement coils? I know there are aftermarket coils but I prefer to stick with OEM type coils.

Believe there's a write up about 1500 coils working on this site. :headscratch: Or another site but look here first, as seems it was here. :read:

Have you checked the breaker points? Sometimes the aftermarket points will come lose from the pivot shaft. I had it happen on my '76. Pull the points cover first to check the obvious stuff before you go buying parts you may not need.

Stick with it, you'll get it sorted. Mine didn't even start when I hade my "grand opening" turned out to be. The damn points, lol.

No that's not my situation.
This bike has an aftermarket electronic ignition. Tested coils one was good one has open winding. And the one that omhed open is for the 2 cylinders that aren't firing.
Couldn't find OEM' s like I wanted except overseas, ordered some dyna's, on the way to me.

Might find another on ebay. Best thing would be get C5 and have an entirely new ignition.

I'm sure this "best" way to go but as spendy as this old project has already been, another 5 bills is just too much.

and worth every penny ..the alternatives are worth nothing and a total waste of money ..in my opinion ....the c5 performs flawless and is accurate ..brings power to the table ....i would never use junk ignitions again even if given to me ....

As good as the C5 is, it doesn't make other ignitions worthless or junk. That is fact.

Overheated like that I wonder if the engine was running very hot for a long time.
The heads being water cooled run pretty cool normally.
