While I am quite pleased with it and in no way regret it's purchase. The dresser looks so comfortable and reverse would be really nice. Not to mention the extra space to carry groceries or trip gear. On top of that I'm not at all fond of polishing but feel I must at least try on the Valk.

sheesh dever....id do one and almost did had a great deal on motor but couldnt swing the trip ro get it ...big 1500 in 1100 frame was the plan ....

Is this bike an 1100 or 1200? notice he claims its an 1983 gl1200 and i thought the first 1200 was in 1984 unless he has the year wrong.

It's an 84 1200. I think I see the ignition wire harness next to the battery box. Geez! I thought my 87 was in rough shape when I got it! :shock:

In order to have an 80-83 1200, you had to make it yourself...

Anyway,Interesting Craigslist observation. Could be related to standard of living, demographics and such. If I am looking for say gl1200's around Oklahoma city, Wichita, Amarillo, Tulsa...... the sellers are asking ridiculously high prices. If I go west out to Phoenix and parts of Arizona, there are a slew of Gl1200's for sale for dirt cheap, we are talking $200-$500 . Crazy, what are these people thinking that are asking $5000 for a 1984 GL 1200??

Prices rise to the level people are willing to pay. Nothing is worth a dime more than the deepest pocket is willing to pay.

I think the better question is, what are the people in Arizona thinking! The price of these bikes are, I think, highly dependent on their condition. The one drug out of a garage after 5 or 10 years is worth the $500 (if complete), versus the refurbished or tenderly cared for and in great condition, should command a premium price and as V stated how deep is someones desire and pockets is where that price is going to land. I don't know if someone offered me $5K for mine, if I would even consider it. Probably not (wife claims it's better than our children and I better not sell it), lots of memories on the old gal.

...sorry to add to this thread so long after the discussion ended, but I wanted to add one more thought to the "what are people in Arizona thinking?" question. I've often wondered that myself - although the truth is that prices here are all over the map. It's just that there are SO MANY for sale that you see prices at all levels.

One thing is common across the price spectrum for native Arizona bikes. They don't rust. There will be rust if it's been left outside, but it won't look like an Eastern "outside" bike, I can assure you and would be an easy restoration. Non-metal parts will be wasted for sure.
