I’m changing out the rear air shocks to non air shocks. The left side came off and went on with very little issue. The right side however is quite different on the bottom half. The bolt on the bottom is different from the other and it will not come out of the rubber seal. It has like a sleeve on it. I have pictures for reference just Incase my explanation doesn’t make sense. Any help is appreciated. I have a day trip planned for sat so I need to get up and running.

The acorn NUT appears to be frozen/seized on the bolt. The acorn nut should come off of the bolt/stud that is threaded into the diff, and then the shock can be removed from the stud. It looks like the nut has seized to the stud, and the whole thing came off, instead of just the nut. Try some WD-40(or similar) on the NUT end, and let it soak. Might need a little heat too, if you have a way to heat it safely. then try to get the nut off.

Might need to double nut the bolt end to hold it to get the acorn nut off. There is a penetrating oil called Freeze Off that may make it easier.

I never new that was a stud. I thought the shock mount on the final drive was actually part of the casing as others have mentioned that is has broken off.
When we bought the wrecked '81 for the engine and other parts to get our '82 on the road, the PO had changed the rear air shocks to a Progressive coil spring shock, but not the right ones for the bike. As a result, that stud ended up grinding out the final drive from vibration. The whole stud came out with nearly liquified aluminum.

The 1200 rear shocks have bolts on the bottom.

...and getting that right side lined up just right so the bolt slides in can be a real biatch!

Still can’t get the acorn but off. I even dropped it off at a local cycle shop hoping they could get it off and still no luck. And that part is a discontinued part. A buddy told me about this guy locally that has a motorcycle junkyard. Went out there after work yesterday and he had one on a bike exactly like mine. Let me take it out and didn’t even charge me for it. Took it out for a ride last night and I have to say the new shocks feel amazing.

Good for you! I didn't know there were any places like that left any more. Sure wouldn't find one around here.
