I changed the oil in my 1980 GL1100 last Thursday and this little piece of nylon came out.
Can anyone tell me what it might be from?
I don't think it's a cable tie.
Also I went on a 200 mile ride on Sunday & nothing different happen.
I'm have no idea what it might be.

Maybe it was in one of the past oil bottles?

I'm leaning towards this, too. You'd be surprised at what I've seen come out of oil jugs other than oil. Also seen foreign objects inside of new oil filters, too. :ahem:

I suppose the good new is that 1) it's plastic and 2) it doesn't appear to be mangled. If it were crunched up, you might assume it had contacted the rotating assembly. Instead, it probably found a corner and stayed there like a good little piece of plastic.

I guess if you've got good oil pressure (light goes out instantly on startup) and no funny noises, just forget about it and move on with your life!

...unless you feel compelled to tear the engine down to investigate.

It is a foreign object.

Just be thankful it came out with an oil change and it ain't in there anymore.

Not that you did before, but now you've never gotta worry about that thing again.

Chances are the rest of that thing just got chewed up by that enormously strong engine you inherited.

Enjoy it! :moped:

It could be a clamp from the neutral light, because it did come on in 5th gear a few months back and maybe it was just in the wrong place for a period of time & then fell down into the bottom.
Oh well... Life goes on...
