Since i ride my gl1200a i've had the metzeler me880 back and front. They lasted aprox 12000km, were just ok dry and dangerous in wet. Then i changed to the continental cm milestones that are pretty sure dry and wet but the rear one is down after only 6000km! A schock! The oldwing isn't a race bike and i drove it like always before. Well i need a new tire and there's near these two the avon cobra av72 that i never had before. Does anyone have experiences with the cobra; wet, dry, how's lasting? I'll not buy anymore the continental, it's just to expensive this way. Should the cobra be b***shit i'll put the metzeler again. I hope not.
What do you mean?
Please no car-tires comments. It's prohibited in europe on a bike.
Thnx a lot

What is the load rating of the Avon Cobra tire that you have on the bike? I have seen where a tire with a 67 load rating was used where a tire with load rating of a 78 should have been used.

The load rating is 80 and i still don't have it, i'm thinking about buy or not buy that's why my question about experiences.

I've no experience with the Cobra tires but so far. I'm happy with the Shinko tires I have on my 1200 and Valkyrie. I haven't been able to rack up the mileage you and others do. I've a little over 1000 miles on both pairs and the still look nearly new and do well rain or shine. I have Pirellie tires on my KZ. They are okay dry but wet are scary.

I am currently running Shinko 230 Tourmasters with balance beads, this is my third set and I have not any issues with them. Great traction wet or dry, decent mileage for a set of tires that run approx 150.00 per set. I started a forum for people to post their experiences with the Shinko tire and I ask for al who have or are running them to post on that forum so others may learn about the Shinko. You can find it here: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=6530

Is this the rear one from shinko SR 777R WW?

I have used the Shinko 230 and they are great on both wet and dry. If you were not happy with the Continental only giving you 6,000 KMs, don't expect too much more from the Shinko 230 though. I averaged around 7,000 miles per tire but I also had one that gave me significantly less, but I think that was the Shinko 712 - that tire is meant for a much lighter bike.

The higher load rating of the 777 should be a good tire, but I've never tried it.

tires made for these bikes are not good ...manufactures just dont care ...shinko seems to be the one that do the best to provide a tire in my opinion ...but in no way do i think there fantastic ..now that i use a car tire on the rear ..front tires wear out first ...and i use shinko up front nice tire for me ...fat beefy and handles well

Do not use the 777 on a Goldwing as you will be disappointed in the mileage. I love my 230s on the Goldwing and I am currently using a Journeymaster on the back of the Valkyrie as the 230s don't fit the rear. I need to replace the front and I think I will mismatch with a 230 front on the Valkyrie as the Journeymaster seems to be a little harder( better mileage maybe poorer handling) than the 230s. I am happy with the rear but I can break traction with it. :hihihi:

Are you sure about that Tony, or are you thinking about the 712? The 777 is a heavy duty tire with a load rating of 90, so it is designed for heavier bikes.

I'm running the Shinko tourmaster tires on the Valkyrie. I don't recall if they will fit the 1200.
What size rear tire did you run as I couldn't find any Tourmasters in 180/70x16? :(

The thread was about experiences with the Avon Cobra rear for a GL 1200 A. In the meantime i got comments of car tires, which i did not want and gl1500 + 1800 that have other tire brands less reduced in posibilities than the 1200. Please make other threads for them and stay with Avon Cobra for a 1200 here. Thnx a lot.
