Working half days on Mondays has its advantages. I lit into the head gasket job on the '78. Can't put it off any longer. Riding season is here! But, I ran into a surprise and I'm going to pretend I didn't see it.

Didn't want to see this SCORING! Like I said, I'm going
to pretend I didn't see it. It does catch a fingernail...

Not much else to do is there, unless you tear it down for rings etc?

Begs the question, what caused the scoring?

I don't have any intention of tearing it down further. It has been running fine. Danged if I know how it happened. All I know is that I'm the 3rd owner - the 2nd was a kid who only had it for a year and started to bob it. I rescued it just in time. It has been treated like royalty in the 5 years I've had it.

I suspect it's been overheated at some point. Not sure what else would do that. It could have been a LOT worse!

I’m thinking what causes that is to hot blown head gasket ...it seems all cooling systems are trashy and have gritty like particles in them ..never seen a super clean one ...and it never gets cleaned up good and the rings just keep grinding it in ...no facts here just an opinion

Took the Slug for a good long ride. It has been a long recovery from my knee issues and the weather was perfect! The old girl was glad to get out. :moped:

Nice to hear Gerry, you can’t be a water baby all the time. :smilie_happy:

13000 kms and the air filter seems to be new.

got my new air filter today and wanted to change it. a look at the filter with 13000kms on it in the air box surprised me. i expected to see a black thing, instead i see the original red color of the filter without any signs of dirt. just like the new one. i'll take a look in the next 13000kms :)

Went to Springwood with the boys for coffee. Had to take the BF RTV as I needed it for work.
Can’t really tell but it is sitting a lot higher with new front springs and wheels and tyres. :good:

Nice ride! Do you have to pay more for insurance because it's red? You have strange ins. laws down under. :?

Back in August I modified a 1200 tall windshield & fit it to my 1100. The increased protection is great but the top of the windshield was right at eye level..I couldn't see over it if the road was downhill at all..I also wasn't crazy about looking through it at night or in the rain so I cut about an inch and a half off the top. It seems like it's where I want it. I have just a bit of finishing work on the edges yet to do. I think I'll ride it a week or so to make sure the height is satisfactory then polish the edge to wrap it up.

How did you make your cut? I've heard a few methods, but it sounds like yours was uneventful. That's the approach I'd like to take - the uneventful one.

I put blue painter's masking tape on both sides and used a jig saw with a fine blade...it made a nice clean cut.

I have a Cee Bailey sport shield on my 1800, and it still forces me to strain to look over it. Might just do the same to it. Being acrylic, I must use extra caution to avoid cracking, but being acrylic it will be easy to polish once cut.

BTW, we just got back from an awsome trip to Barbers. Thursday, six hours at the museum. Friday wandering the swap meet lots, the VJMC and AHMC bikes, and watching road race practice. Saturday watching races. Next year I will book a room through Sunday night and take in the whole thing.

I'd love to get to Barber sometime. A buddy of mine was there racing...he's the passenger on a sidecar. That's him in the hack on #74
