After you check the stator out and find out if it is the problem I would recommend you check to see if there's any place around you that does alternators. I say this because there's a place close to me that will rebuild stators and alternators ....

I thought that was crazy ..... would you be able to tell me what the clunky sound is on my GL1100I whenever I am in 1st or 2nd and below 2500 RPM ...seems to go away after that. I'm thinking it may be the drive chain that has some slack at these lower RPMs a friend said it could be the thrust...
