Help with 1985 GL1200 Limited Edition

+1 for a battery tender. Battery Tender Jr. is cheap and a great quality of life addition to any motorcycle owner, even one that rides year round. Mine has brought a bunch of batteries back from the grave, including an old "add distilled water" lead acid out of a bike that sat for 7 years in...

Anyone out there? Stranded with what is probably obvious to old timers.

That is exactly what I am looking for. I haven't found anything that clearly fits the GL1000 yet though. Would an 1100 rack fit for sure? Beautiful bike by the way. Blows my mind that hardly anyone makes standards like these anymore. The Kawasaki Z900RS and Z650RS seem to have rediscovered...

Oof! Sorry to hear that. Hope you heal up quickly. Any good options for a passenger backrest? I really like the Sargent seat it has in it now, but I need a way to give my wife a backrest. I think eventually we are just going to give in and get a full dresser, but that will mean this beauty...

Okay, got her all sorted out. Rear turn signal bulb died in the ol' glass separating from the cap way that makes removal a huge PITA. Got it out and replaced with one I had lying around and turn signal works. No more fuse pops. The 1000 amp fuse saved me without killing anything else...

Whelp, while my coworker was off grabbing his trailer for me, I rechecked the fuse that I put in place of the blown fuse. As soon as I grabbed it the metal separated from the glass. I didn't have any more 15s so I stuck a 10 in its spot and she started up. She blew the fuse shortly after, but...

To add: Headlight works. No other lights or horn operating.

Stuck on side of road. Turn signals stopped working, then just died. Turns over but will not start. Lights on dash work. Found blown 15 amp fuse and replaced it, no go. Fuel in tank. Tried on and res. No plug wrench to see if spark.

Idle adjusted, carbs synched well(I hope, vid attached), clutch cable rerouted and adjusted to just over 1/4 inch of play. Oil and filter changed to Rotella T6. No test ride yet, but I feel good about the adjustments. Hopefully the oil and clutch adjustment help the neutral issue.

Okay, choke looks fine. It's a bit tough to pull from all the way off to half choke, but not terrible. I have been using the crack the throttle technique when turning it on. I haven't done a synch yet, but i did a preliminary idle adjustment on all the carbs. The curb idle adjustment...

You guys are awesome! It didn't turn out to be carbs. It was timing. I noobed it a bit. I tore it all down again, and the marks were off just slightly. I retimed, this time doing everything I could to make sure everything lined up absolutely spot on. Now it holds idle. It actually holds...

No strong gas smell. Starts right back up but won't hold the idle. It did not seem to be any particular cylinder. Pulling any one spark plug killed it just the same.

Okay, brake fluid changed out, radiator back on and filled. I took a short ride to the gas station and filled the tank with fresh fuel then added Marvel Mystery Oil. Idle is a bit finicky and tends to stall out. I will attach a video in hopes one of the pros can point me where I should go...

I got one with my belts, but figured it would be prudent to change the antifreeze anyway and get a better look at everything to do it the first time. Maybe I will try it that way next time.

Bikes this old, it can't hurt to have a few necromancers around... Seriously though, he has a point, it helps people reading the thread even if the ones quoted are long gone in one way or another.
