    GL1200 Stator Test Procedures

I think I have cooked the stator in my 84 Standard :crying: so I am looking for the testing procedures. I had a png file of it in a previous post, but that link seems to be broken. The motor that is in the bike has about 70K miles on it, so I really am not that surprised if it is gone, but I...

    Here I go Again - Darksiding an 87 1200

I have always said that I will try anything once and if I like it, I'll do it again. When this dang quarantine crap has me working my tail off at my full time job but my part time job has come to an end, so I have lots of time on my hands, so I am spending a lot of overtime money and time on my...

    The Cabot Trail

In 1992, when I was stationed in Brunswick, Maine, a few friends of mine took a few days off to ride to Nova Scotia and ride the Cabot Trail. At the time, my sons were 3 and 1, and my wife was not hearing anything about me leaving her for a week with two small children, so I didn't even mention...

    Double Darkside GL1200

I've had the 165/80R-15 on the rear of my GoldWings for about 13,000 miles now and there is still a lot of wear left in it. The rear tire on my Standard was made in 2007, so it was time to replace it. Since I have the 87 torn apart doing some work, I decided to put the car tire from the 87...

    Oops! I did it again...

A friend of mine texts me and says, do you want to buy my 81 1100? At first I'm thinking... I don't need another bike or an 1100. Then I Remember that it has almost every aftermarket add on you could've bought for these things... so I think about it, and I think about it, and I think about it...

    Warning - GoldWings Reproduce!!!

Last Friday at the age of 75, my dad failed to safely negotiate a 90 degree turn and was awarded an express ticket ride to the hospital. Right in the corner of that turn was a big @$$ rock and the front wheel was introduced to the rock in a bad way. Thankfully he landed in a wheat field so...

What was Honda THinking - Fan Fuse

On the 84 Standard, the fuse block is different from the 87 Interstate... 84: 87: Something is missing... 84 Fan Motor Fuse: The frustrating part is that this is located on the left side of the frame tight against the frame and under the seat. Not too big of a deal if everything is...

Have you ever been stuck to your seat?

Over the this past weekend, I took a trip down to Southern Virginia to spend the weekend at Willville Bike Camp and ride around on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I had the 84 Standard and the trailer was loaded with about 250 pounds worth of stuff. The trip South was for the most part uneventful...

    Collapsed Lifter

So I think I have an issue starting... What causes a lifter to collapse? I start to hear the tapping and rattling and then it goes away. I'll be pulling the valve cover off this evening to see if things are the way they should be, but I wanted to get an understanding before I start.

    This is crazy!

Did someone let the pilot light go out on the furnace? The last day it has been ABOVE freezing was Christmas day, but they are saying it may get about freezing today, only to give us a wintery mix. I'm about ready to pack up the plantation and move to warmer climates.

Over heated in Texas - Part II

I chronicled my adventures of the breakdown and eventual rebirth of my 1200 Standard with another motor in the first installment of this saga ( https://classicgoldwings.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=11503 ). Now it is time to start the next chapter, which I hope has as good of an ending as the...

    That's sweet...

I went for a ride yesterday on the 87 and didn't get too far. As I was riding I started to get a whiff antifreeze. A quick look in the mirror, and sure enough there were puffs of steam coming out the exhaust. :head bang: So, I turned around and limped the bike home. Here I go again...

    A little electrical help...

After my problems with the 84 overheating, I am considering installing an indicator light on my 87 that comes on when the fan is on... not just when electrical power is on but rather when the fan is actually on. To make matters even worse, my intention is that I want to keep the fan wired...

    1200 Wheels

Will an 84 Wheel with the 84 drive spline work on an 87 final drive? I've been reading everything I can on this and see where the 84 wheel will not work with the 87 drive spline, but still haven't found a definitive answer to the wheel/drive spline. I had an 84 wheel/drive spline on the bike...

It's like saying goodbye to an old friend...

This afternoon I rode the 81 to the local Twin Kiss for a root beer float. When I pulled into the garage, I shed a tear because this was the last time "The Bike" will break the threshold of my garage under it's own power. After spending all this past week on the 87 running around the hills of...

Why is my backside so heavy...

Not that one!!! :smilie_happy: Every time I use my motorcycle lift with the bikes that have saddlebags installed, the back tire doesn't want to come of the ground, so I wind up like this: Obviously, the higher I get, the worse it becomes and I would resort to using a jack stand to support...

    Replacement Baffles

The exhaust system from my 84 donor bike which is now on my 87 has had the rear baffles removed. That makes the sound of the exhaust a little louder than I would like. I can live with it, but I would like to quiet it down a little bit. Has anyone tried inserting some aftermarket baffles...
