Question for those who have rebuilt rear shocks

You should be fine. I just did the ones on my '83 with 45K on them. New seals, new boots, fresh fluid. They work fine.

Question for those who have rebuilt rear shocks

There is damping in both directions but there is more damping on rebound, less on compression. How many miles on the shocks? I suspect that with the proper amount of new fluid in them they'l be fine. Stay safe and enjoy the ride.

    what did you do today

It was a beatiful day in NE Ohio so I took my wife out for lunch on the "83 GL1100i. We spent about 2 hours cruiseing some nice, quiet country roads in Amish country. That's our daughter with me in the photo.

    Gl1100 Front brake bleeding tip

I did the same thing. I carefully filled a bit off of the lever where it contacts the piston. It works perfect.

Diamond Custom Seat for Honda GL1100i. This seat is in very good condition. There is a small blemish on the passenger seat that may be a cigarette burn and a repaired spot in the vinyl on the left side. Both are shown in photos. It includes rider and passenger back rests and all hardware to...

    Rear brake woes gl1100

I know you said that the return port was clear but this sure sounds like a blocked return port problem. I had the same issue on the front brake of my '83. It took a lot of poking in the return port with a small sewing needle (clamped in some needle nose vise grips) to get it cleaned out and then...

    Gl1100 Front brake bleeding tip

Pretty impressive tutorial. That's what makes forums like this so valuable for us more "mature" people and our mature Goldwings.

    Gl1100 Front brake bleeding tip

I think you may have me confused with someone else. Although I did rely on my early years wrenching on British cars with multiple side draft carbs to reseal and synch the carbs on my GL1100. It runs like a champ.

    Gl1100 Front brake bleeding tip

I also just rebuild both master cylinders, all calipers, and replaced the brake hoses on my '83 GL1100. The hand brake was still very spongy. I tried this method and there was a noticeable improvement. Thanks for the tip.

Can't stop gas leaking past float needles

That's a nice set up for bench testing and verifying the float level. One question. How did you attach the hoses to the float bowls? In the photos it looks like a brake bleeder screw.

It's one of those 'oh f#*k' moments - HELP PLEASE!

It's been awhile since I had the rear wheel out of my GL1100 but I kind of remember that there was an axle spacer like that in the final drive unit. I don't recall that it was slightly flared on one end but I remember it fell out onto the floor I wondered where did this come from.

    Main fuse blown

Mine also disintegrated when I touched it. 40 years of oxidation. I went to the local Honda Powersports dealer and they had them in stock. For $1.95 ea I bought two so I have a spare. Easier and cheaper than replacing it with a fuse holder. The original lasted 40 years. I think the new one will...

    83 Interstate headlight bulb

I need to replace the headlight bulb (H4) on my 83 GL1100 Interstate. I can't figure out how the headlight comes out. Any help is appreciated. Looking at it from the front I only see one screw on the right side of the bike that appears to be a horizontal aim screw.

    1983 GL1100 Interstate

Nice bike. I just picked one up just like it a week ago. Two owners, 45,000 miles. I rode it 100 miles home. I'm in the process of checking everything over, cleaning it up a bit, new tires, a set of brake pads, rebuild front master cyl, and it will be good to go.

    Goldwing newbi

Well, the '87 was sold before I got to it. However I bought an '83 GL1100 Interstate yesterday and rode it the 120 miles home. 2 owners, 45,000 miles, always garaged. The prev owner bought it from his friend in 1998. All maintenance is up to date including the timing belts. The only real issue...
