Well, I'm sure that gear fits "something". But not my bike. I expect the seller will make it right with a refund after the starter is returned. Unless I get lucky and he has something else up his sleeve. I called the number, but no answer. Might be too late over on the right coast today. I'll try again tomorrow, but probably won't get an answer till Monday. As for Chinese counterfeit, most likely anything I buy (new or worn out) in a comparable price range will come with the same odds. I don't have a rebuildable core, or the money to buy one and have it rebuilt. I hate to pull the starter off the running bike, not knowing what tomorrow will bring. I was wanting to get this bike running and try to get a months rent for it while it's still riding time. That might not happen for awhile, I guess. That's my only disappointment. I still have a couple cameras I can get rid of to buy some time before the landlord gets pissed. The point of this was to warn others of the screw-up possibilities out there in the world and whether or not to use this vendor. (jury still out to lunch) By the way, one gear has 12 teeth and the other has 13 teeth. And of course the shaft splines are different. Could this be for the wrong year? Somebody pulled the wrong part? Part boxed wrong? Boat load of "oops" parts?
