LED bugger should work. The way I read it it just needs a power source not connected to the gauges. One power wire and 6 going to ground.

.90 cents with free shipping Lol.
If it works what the hay.

I'm so poor I'd have to finance it. 12 months at 10c a month ( on approved credit)

Going along nicely, here are some pics. I have replaced all the o-rings and crush washers but have two extra parts? ( the middle o-rings goes on the radiator connecting piece) just not installed yet,, but these two other parts have me stumped, what did I miss? This crush washer that's left over isn't the one for the water drain plug, i already put the new one on there, this one is larger than that.

Here she is back to running with her new chinese led gear indicator working...
Led gear indicator: https://youtu.be/E23mATT3maE

All it took was power to the red line and ground to the right pin. I had the thing hooked up and working in 1\2 hour. The 1200 sei front engine cover with switch that shows all gears (rather than just neutral and OD) took considerably longer to install though.

Thanks again slabghost, and you were right, I don't know why the ad states you must have a digital speedo and tach.

Very cool. The planets aligned so that your new cover was able to make it work :good:

I gave up trying to get mine to work. Are all of the gear indicator wires grounds, ie. Does each shift complete a ground from the wires coming from the front cover? I have the harness coming from the case, but it's just hanging on mine. Is yours the $0.90 job? That would fit my budget.

There are different kinds, some are made to work totally different. On this one, one wire is +12v and the others take ground to indicate each gear one wire per gear. Yes you can win an auction on one for .99 shipped if lucky, others are buy it now for $3 -6 shipped. Be careful you dont get the wrong kind which is made to use sensors on the shift lever and digital tach and speedo but doesn't come with the sensors needed to use it..

Yes each gear creates a ground on a different wire in the sei switch. If you have a stock switch you'll only get signals for neutral and gear 5, it only has 3 wires but the sei has 6 wires. The female connector was taken off the 3 wire stock switch and just happens to fit the male connector on the sei switch. And the bare pins the .99 cent indicator comes with fit perfectly in the female connector from the stock switch.

This won't work without an sei or maybe ltd switch in your front engine cover.

Mine is an 85, and didn't have carbs on it when I got it, but it had the tubes, so I think it was carbureted. It does have six wires coming from the front cover with a connector like yours as far as I can tell. I will have to study it more closely this weekend. It would be great to have something like yours.

If you have 6 wires you're set, it'll work.

Ohm the connector wires and shift the gears. Each should read continuity in one gear. The readout needs a seperate power source and connected to all those ground points.

You are quite welcome. Now I just need to find out if my 84 project has the same switch. :thanks:

My engine is supposedly an 84 and it only had the 3 wire switch originally. One of these cheap chinese all in one digital speedo/tach/gear indicator/etc units looks interesting too, but so far I haven't found one that says it supports mph.

Good question. Probably automatically remembers the setting you manually set. I emailed the seller of the cheaper one and asked if supports mph, he said yes there's a switch...
