If you were at the PS site, you have the part number. I'd be confident they know their stuff better than a retailer.

On a normal engine I wouldn't even consider reusing those bearings...or any bearing, for that matter, that had any sign of wear.
Engine rebuilds are labour intensive, and (save for pistons) parts cheap.
For the amoumt of work involved in making it right, go for new wear parts.

I believe that is GL1000's that have the rubber plug.
I wouldn't be concerned about shooting some carb cleaner to clean it off. It's a straight shot into the combustion chamber from there.
What sizes are you working with?
Wouldn't it be a lot easier just to buy an adapter?
They're quite common, and cheap.
