I hope I got all the air out. The wife & I took off for a short 40 mile today & it ran good. Still have a problem with the 7 volt regulator (I checked with my Goldwing expert) bcuz my gas gauge said I only had 1/4 of a tank so I filled it & it only took 1 gal. & the gas gauge never went over half for the whole ride. Warren (my Goldwing expert) said I need to pull the windshield off & then pull the gauge backing off & I can check the 7 volts but it shouldn't be any higher then 7 v.
I do get a newsletter from Goldwingdocs & they have a replacement one for $39.99

Has anyone tried this replacement?
TNX, Jim

If gauge isn't fluctuating at the same time as temperature it's probably the fuel sending unit gunked up.

After rereading the article I found this & yes it isn't the 7 v reg.

Now let me state one thing: If one of the two gauges is working normally, and the other is not, then your problem is not your 7 volt regulator. But if both of them are not working correctly - it's time to replace that regulator. The symptoms of a failed 7 volt regulator are both fuel and temperature gauges reading high, or both reading zero, and it commonly happens intermittently for a while before complete failure.

So I'll check the fuel sending unit. I have had it out before.

While your checking the sending unit look and see if someone grounded the end of the rheostat. There is a wire that sort of hangs there and some would think it is a broken ground and solder it, it isn't and is just the end of the winding and if grounded would give a wonky reading.
Its a longshot but more then once, and if it has been out before, I have read posts where someone was going to solder it to ground thinking it belonged there.

Good info but it has been working fine until this week, but you never know, maybe it moved or something but TNX because I'll pull it & if I saw that I might think that it needs to be soldered lol

possibly the surface is warped, you can have the machine shop check it, otherwise make sure you are torqueing properly.

Do Goldwings use "stretch bolts"? If so you should be replacing them everytime you R2 the head gaskets.

Also lubing the threads and using the proper tightening sequence is a must. You can also trace the threads in the block to assure no sticking.

When I pulled the seat off I found the problem with the sending unit. One of the wires was not on correctly pushed on, intermittently touching, so I used some needle nose pliers & squeezed it closed & push it back on but not before I pulled the unit out just to see if it was gummed up. It looks good inside & I put it all back & filled it with gas & it has been fine for two days now.
TNX for the info

So now it's ride time again I hope. Glad it was an easy fix.
Been trying to get some ride time in but so far only put 290 miles on it since I replaced the heads gasket the last time so I hope it holds.

With the prep job you did this time I'd bet money it'll last a long time.
I hope so... It has been 325 miles & still running good since I milled the block & did the head gasket.

That's about 3 1/2 hours at temp. I'd say if you'd missed anything it'd let go by now. Keep riding and let the old girl reassure you she's back to health.

I'm still a little gun shy but I do ride her every day.

It might be a good idea to recheck the head bolt torque, now that you have a few hundred miles on her.
I would.

Okay, it has been about 500 miles since I milled the block, so I recheck the head bolt torque & they are good. Also pulled the other valve cover & set all the tappets. Also checked all the air (tires & shocks) oil & radiator. Also changed the spark plugs.

Thanks for the reminder. I need to do the same thing to my head bolts.

Glad you stuck it out, so many times folks give up and sell or part it. I think this is something that will help many wing owners to get it right the first time.
