"Right tighty, Lefty loosey"
At least it should be an easy repair! :beg:

I have never loosened that bolt. Why it picked now to go, hard telling. At least it was only idling when it went.

I have one.
Given to you or bought? Given bells are supposed to be better.

I think I still have the '81 back cover. If I do, it makes a good reason for me to ride up that way!
:good: :moped: :clapping:

Just got my back tire installed. Now to pull the bike and trailer out to get to the shelves that would be hiding that back cover. Worse case, I gave it to Jersey Dogg.

I still have the '81 back cover Brian! Unfortunately, I had to head out of town for work and will not be back for a week. But we will work this out! (More parts to throw in the trailer for another ride!!)

No problem Gerry. I know the rear case is cracked so I do need it, I just don't have the desire to work in a hot garage in 90+ degrees temps, so I am not rushing.

I am pretty confident in my mechanical abilities but I was rather worried when I posted this picture:

Turns out that the bright silver line at 12 O'Clock was in fact a crack:

When I saw that after the motor was out, well I became even more worried! I was sure that the stator was toast and I was also thinking that the rotor may be in sad shape but...

So as it appears now, I guess I need the rear case which Gerry has one, the dust cap that was destroyed and the bolt that holds the rotor on the shaft. The threads were a little messed up and I cleaned them up, but I am going to replace the bolt anyway. While I have the rotor off, I amy as well fix that dang starter clutch issue I always deal with in the winter.

Being good has it benefits, but sometimes being lucky is even better!
