Even though they share displacement, it sounds like your motor is quite different from mine. Also, altitude and temperature are bound to be different between our zip codes. It is pretty warm here in San Diego compared to most of the rest of the country. My elevation is around 400'.

Well I do believe heat does help.
Whether getting the carb dialed in perfect makes heat not needed remains to be duplicated from what Joe has found.
Hooch is very unique in it's setup running 1100 heads and early 1000 cams along with non stock exhaust as well as a C5 ignition. Joe's results not able to compare to anything else out there in my opinion.

Some carbs have adjustment for more or less fuel from the accel pump. Might check the linkage.
+1

A while back, Aapple suggested the Ford grid heater that was designed to be used under the 740 carb on the Escort. I bought one today. If it helps like I expect it to, drivability should improve along with mileage. I will try this before messing with the jets, as except for the hesitation, I feel my carb is near perfect. Last tank was just under 30 mpg. I'm sure that will improve.....

yes im going on long trip ...in good conditions ... ive done a lot to carb ..and think ive got mpg game in my favor...trip will tell me alot ....there no reason a weber carb ...if made cured from the epa virus ....it should get as good or better than stock set up .... so im wanting 40+mpg even on hooch

I'm in north san diego county and use no heat on my set up. I can say that 1\4 turn on my idle mixture screw made the difference between off-idle dead spot and no dead spot in throttle response.( just got to find the sweet spot ) can't say what heat would do as I haven't tried it. idle between 900 and 1000 rpm.
However mine is a 1000 c.c. engine so this info may not apply. dave

Sounds like you have it spot on Dave :good: :clapping: :salute:

Got the grid heater today. I'm having to do some clearancing to get it to fit down in the manifold. It's a little bigger than I thought it would be. Also needed to make longer carb studs. I should be back together tomorrow. It will take me a little while before I can report on results. Also ordered iridium plugs. I will try them after I've got the heater figured out.
