i bought another 86 1200 aspencade.the guy i got if from just replaced the timing belts but told me he did not know if he put them an the right way.the bike runs but with a knock while running...my question is will it knock if the timing is off a tooth or 2

iwouldnt run it any more id take the timing belt covers off and check timing to eliminate that as the problem ...then id pull plugs and tur motor by hand to feel if everything feels right ...sould be only valve sprin pessure on things ...trun it many times ....so all vales cycle through ...if that feels good try it again

It's possible the knock is from carbs out of sync or not all cylinders firing. Flat 4's can make a heck of a racket when out of balance like this but check the belt timing first like Joe says. Maybe it's not too late.
