I am currently running a smaller bore MC off a CBR1000f that has an adjustable lever and that seems to give me the best results with the single pot 81 calipers.

I know 80-81 bike bikes need one caliper mount bolt removed to bleed them properly. So you can get the bleeder straight up. If it isn't you can't get all the air out of the caliper.
That applies to the '82 calipers also! There are some very neat tricks here for how to get air out of the system.

For instance. Pump up the brake until it is stiff and zip tie the lever in place in the applied position. Walk away and let it sit like that over night. When you return, all the air will have worked itself out of the line and back to the reservior through that tiny return orfice.

That works well if the air is in the lines or splitter. If the air bubble is in the caliper it must be rotated so bleeder is up.
