Rolling frame is back and centerstand cross bar is welded back in!!

Just out of interest how did you take the centre stand off the frame. Mine has what seems to be a tube that goes through the frame and centre stand. On one side the "tube" for want of a better word has been expanded at one end so it cannot come out, at the other end there are two holes drilled through the tube to allow a "split pin" to be attached and to secure the tube.

I hope I have made myself clear. As I have tried to remove the tube holding the centre stand on to the frame. it moves about 1/8th of an inch and stops.

Have you removed the 2 bolts that crimp the tube to the frame? If so, use a large screwdriver and pry them apart slightly. If there's rust holding the tube in place, you'll have to drive it out with a piece of pipe - or something similar - slightly smaller in diameter than the tube.

Tinkering with a bunch of audio parts I bought from Brian. Let's see if I can get some decent sound out of these 30+ year old electronics...

Good luck! I had a hangover because of you!!!

I really himmed and hawed about that stuff...I have an AM that works just fine but my FM has a slight garble. Thinking it is old dried capacitors and should be an easy fix but thought a spare I could slip it in and give me more time to dicker around should I pull it out.
Hmmm...Yep , that sound right but a little wrong too.

Hello . I pulled the motor last week cause I was hearing a rattle under load. I removed the cap on the #1 connecting rod and found the top/side of the bearing wearing into the shine. the bottom look like it is wearing also. So I guess It's time for some connecting rod bearings thus far. Now I have never used plastic gauge before, so I am unsure of this step to finding what bearings I need..

Prepped, primed and painted the centerstand, footpegs, battery box and the new centerstand cross tube. Radiator and fan paint turned out great! Reassemble radiator, fan motor and shroud only to have the rubber grommets disintegrate under the hold down screws on the motor! :Awe:

Cleaning up the frame for paint where the new centerstand tube was welded in and tapped some old paint off.......it wasn't paint! It was rust!! :head bang: :Awe: :cheeky: (Another new rust hole where I did not expect...right after getting the frame back from the welder!!)

The 1100 and the 1000 bearing selection is the same... There are markings on the case, the crank, and the connecting rods (I, II, or III on the case, 1, 2, or 3 on the rods, and both letters and numbers on the crank). There are charts in the service manual, in the Gallery, that will tell you what bearings you need. (75 to 79 GL1000 Shop Manual, Chapter 6 Engine Lower End Repair, page 6-18 and 6-19) Maybe you should start a thread on your engine work, and we can get more detailed.

Weather guessers were calling for rain today, so yesterday I pulled the bags off to paint them. I woke up to the sound of rain on the roof. I guess they got it right. Now I can put it back together again, and I think I will have all the plastic the way I want it... for now.

Dropped the rear luggage, just not a fan of it. I adjusted the suspension, changed the oil, tested the fork seal fix ( google sealmate), set up some service calls for the shop, tuned the GL and did some test riding. I did this after the 200 milkes round trip to Fargo on the wifes bike, we are just about ready for the big patriot guard meet this weekend, mmmm steak fry, a ride, and yes, another steak fry, I know two nights in a row right!!! He** Yea!!!!

Oh I visited the stock exhaust with the mighty divining rod of loudness and exhaust destruction, with my three pound mallet, we made some changes, I have new can on the way so I had some fun, sounds good and its dialing in, I might have to do a 1/16 of a turn yet for the free exhaust, but I will tune it tomorrow!

Threw on the new LEDs. Work great, just rode up the dreaded driveway in the dark with a really nice light pool off to the sides and down the road
Also finally replaced the used air filter that has been in the Rats Nest forever ( kept forgetting to order one)
Bike doesn't smell as rich and performs even better with more induction noise. I will do some fuel economy tests and see what it has been costing me by not changing the air filter sooner :head bang:

Stopped at Harbor Frieght... bad things happen when I go there, and added to my tool kit for the bike. :builder:
What is the point of telling us "you went to Harbour freight" without telling us what you bought?

I wrote that I bought some tools.
