    Gl1100 rear shocks question.

I'm confused. I am wondering why what I have won't fit. Gl1100 stock top bushing is rubber with no metal sleeve. Fits over the frame post which measures 16mm diameter. The larger of the two bushing holes in the cx500 shock has a metal sleeve in it with iD 12mm and an oD of almost 16mm. Hmmm...

    Gl1100 rear shocks question.

Thanks McGovern, however those appear to be the cx500 ones. What I am hoping to do is put gl1100 bushings in cx500 shocks so that they bolt onto the stock gl1100 chassis. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

    Gl1100 rear shocks question.

Ok good to know. Shall I assume the proper bushings are tough to find given the water hose method mentioned above? Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

    Gl1100 rear shocks question.

I picked up a set of cx500 shocks to replace the tired for shocks on my 1100. It appears that the bushing holes are not big enough for the 1100. Can I swap out the bushing with larger. iD of the actual shock hole seems to be the same on both sets, its the iD of the inside bushing hole that...

    Name that malfunction...

Yes I'm thinking that had to be one heck of a stereo to drown out the racket coming off the brakes!! Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

    Name that malfunction...

A friend gave me a box of old goldwing parts to help with my build. Check out the pics and name the malfunction or reassembly snafu that resulted in this carnage. :) Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

    Seat pan clearance

Found these on my local clist. Are mounting holes all a standard size regardless of brand or application? Pair Progressive Shock 11" - $100 https://maine.craigslist.org/mpo/5163985249.html via cPro Craigslist App Android: https://tinyurl.com/CL-Android iOS: https://tinyurl.com/CL-iDevice...

    Seat pan clearance

As u can see the rear tire wheel well has substantially less clearance than stock. How do I know what "bottomed out" is for new shocks? For example... A 12 inch shock is no longer 12 inches when fully compressed. Do shock specs say how much travel will occur? Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

    Seat pan clearance

Forgive my ignorance. Are most shocks these days adjustable? And does adjustable typically mean just stiffness, just travel, or both? The rear tire clearance is not what is used to be before this frame mod. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk

    Seat pan clearance

So I cut the rear frame seat bump so as to allow a flatter custom seat pan on my 81 gl1100. I would like to swap out the stock air shocks due to age and to remove the pesky air hoses as well. Finally this bike will be ridden solo and 2up. What would some good and inexpensive option for me...

    Hi from Maine

It's my first attempt at anything to do with fiberglass. Definitely a learning curve, but I am liking the way its shaping up so far. Obviously the passenger seat frame bump was sacrificed. Might need some advice as far as managing tire clearance with rear shock travel. The hope is a...

    Terraplane sidecar

Hi all, I am on the fence about a purchase and I'm looking for some feedback from those in the know. Here's the deal. I have an 81 gl1100 project in the works. Cafe build that will likely be needing some parts as I work the kinks out. In searching for parts, I have an opportunity to buy a...
