    99 Vulcan
  2. fivestring

    My new bike.

The Vulcans are nice bikes. I have a 99 1500. Straight Shot pipes. Great bike but I missed the smoothness and sound of four cylinders. Now my Vulcan is for sale.

I would encourage you to go towards the 34 pict 3. Your $95-100 estimate is right on. I did the same conversion and would do it again without question. In fact, if I came across another really good local deal on an Oldwing that "needs carb work" I would buy it and put a pict on it. I would be...

    Another 34 Pic 3 Build!

You are right on. With all that fun just waiting on a wrist twitch, it's hard to just cruise for very long.

I think I am finished tweaking the carb. It is running very well with no flat spots, easy starts and very good performance throughout the rpm range. Plug color is good and hot or cold starts are instant. Main jet 142 Idle jet .65 Idle mixture 2.75 turns Fuel mpg is low 30's. I wish it better...

I'm not sure what you are referring to in this picture. Air cleaner is at the top. The only louvers on my bike are on the housing of the LED headlights.

Just arrived at work. I am happy to report ALL hesitation is gone! This thing acts like an aminal! Starting off from a dead stop is effortless. Cornering in 2nd or even 3rd and rolling on the throttle is smooth and strong. I am not quite done yet. I have a notion I could step down one size on...

Dan, I believe the same. The accelerator pump squirt helps for a brief moment then it is gone and the idle jet is left alone to pick up the work load until the rpms reach the main jet zone and she starts pulling harder. This is my theory for today. The ride to work will test the theory.

I didn't get any time with the bike for several days but had the opportunity to ride to work and back, an 80 mile trip. I realized then that I still have some adjusting to do on this carb. To put it simply, it is very easy to stall the bike when starting to move and I noticed a definite lack of...

Very nice write-up. I also am waiting on the night ride report. Specifically, how the new high beam compares to old in distance coverage.

It is not as loud as you would imagine. The longer the pipes, the quieter it gets. I usually ride behind my buddy and I can't hear his exhaust at all on the highway if not aggressively accelerating.

    81 1200 Project

I'm glad to hear you're making progress, Brian. I felt kinda bad when you drilled to 140 like I suggested and it didn't work for you. It sounds like I need to investigate this c5 business...

Not as loud as most Harley's with straight pipes. Sounds excellent under acceleration
