Sounds just about like mine when I am running 10W30. During warmer months I run 15W40 Delo Oil and during the colder months I run 15W30. Helps prevent those starter issues Dan was talking about.

My ears are not so good (tinitis), so it sounds pretty good to me - certainly nothing major wrong. I like the '83 speedometer on your '81!

Didn't the Canadian models also come with the high MPH speedo's in earlier years?

Sounds kind of like mine, but when it's hot, i'm able to reproduce it around 3k. it's dulled a little bit by the camera tho, the knock sounds a little more metalic than in the video.

That sounds serious.
I'd pull the valve cover, check everything is tight and also check that timing belt marks are correct.....as a start at a minimum.

Well here's my attempt at capturing the sound. Lots of wind noise... I may try and get a better one later but maybe this helps.

The sound in this video is what I'm hearing. This is more like it for sure. Only with load and running warm from a stop start light. cruse speeds are fine once the load comes on it's there. Spark knock Going to reset the timing. I've asked this question before and not getting a strt answer. When setting the timing with Dyna and a light bulb do we set TDC withthe bulb fully on or just starting to come on? Thanks again. I was reading through the post links from my post at the bottom of page and found this. Seams like these bikes have some type of noise going on. I run 5/30 oil in the bike is that a good weight? I'm in florida and it's hot year round. I was going to go up to 20/50.. Thanks

Also my bike don't run this cool douring the day. It's in the middle at night then it will run this cool.

the dyna sets on the f1 and f2 marks not ti and t2 marks paul...oh and light sould just come on there ....but dyna act differently from one to the next it seems depending on magnet differences

Rotella or any good name diesel oil, or 20/50 are both fine in my bikes, diesel costing less in my experience.

Being in Texas I run 15-50w oil and ride it almost year round, except with snow or ice.
Florida definitely similar to Texas in the summer months for sure I'd imagine. But y'all definitely get cooler winters. I went ahead and back of time and down and we are going to give that a try. The timing is flat stock but then coils are real hot fire in the wire I have my Plugs kept at 28. I could open them up to 32. 4:35 I can't remember. Accel coils.
