I'm fixing up a 1980 GL1100I that I just bought. I cannot figure out what this is. Can anyone tell me? It has a single wire that was not connected to anything. On top is a clear plastic knob and a screw with a lock nut.

Doesn't look original/factory installed to me. Might be leftover from some sort of alarm system?

+1 on Alarm system.

I finally cut the glue and removed the back to see what's inside. It is not a buzzer. There is a light bulb and a weight on a strip of spring steel that swings up and down between two weak magnets. When the weight is up the light comes on. When the weight is down the light goes off. I suppose it could have tripped an alarm if someone shook the bike.
