I am going to buy a set of crash bars for my Goldie, but I still have not completely decided which style I want I'm kind of leaning towards the stock looking wrap arounds. Maybe some of you could post pics of what you've got on yours and also point me to a good source to find them.

He is my set....'82 standard and this is how they look with the Vetter faring:

Mine are also like Gerry's(mcgovern61)
I would certainly like to have some like Dan's tho, with the extra upright at the front. :good:
Check on e-bay...there's usually some there. I think JC Whitney also has some that are similar, but I'm not sure.

I agree about Dan's crash bars! I like them. I sent a PM to him.

If anybody else has a good set of 83 engine guards (crash bars), I would be interested in purchasing them.

Those are 80 model year bars and the ones to have. The rear end doesn't curve out as an ankle buster like on the stock 81-83 bars. I've got a set of these on the way from Kansas. Can't wait to get them on.

:hi: My 80 has the same as the 82... I have the new J. C. Whitney Catalog and it has no case geards (crash bars or wgatever) tha fits a wing of anykind except one that bolts to the down tube ... most of them are for the V tiins as pictured..... :fiddle: :heat:

After seeing Dans...I bought a set like them off of eBay last night. Can't wait to get them on the bike!

In all the years I have been riding, I am sickened to see how many
call mere "Engine Guards" crash bars. The closest to real crash bars
are what Dan has on his machine. Those have some of the design
to approach real crash bars.

The purpose of crash bars, by design, was to help keep a striking
vehicle bumper from snapping your leg off just below the knee, and
at slowing vehicle speeds (such as when the shocked driver hits his
brakes) strikes your crash bars and begins to roll you over. However,
with the design of the bars having a slope inward at the bottom the
bumper rolls you just until that slope, and then tends to 'spit' you
out and away from being run over.

The rear mounted curved bars also help to keep the machine off
you when you go down, and in some cases keep a bumper away
as well.

Now, there is not much any type of protection can help with a very
fast moving vehicle, or one that is continuing to accelerate when
you are struck.

Crash bars are not designed to wrap around, but for no more than
protection for you, and your machine. I wish I could find some made
to fit my 81 Interstate. I may one day just have to make some.
