I talked to a salvage guy today who said"those are rare, hard to find parts"
He then told me 350.00 exchange for a mster cyl, and 295.00 for an ignition switch.
Saw another Master c for 250.00 and it looked pretty rough.

I think i am going to have to "Frank" one in.
I really dislike the thought...

also read a thread where an 83 de-linked with a 81 M/C

prob an easy swap here

I think the salvage yard owners are looking to retire early.
I had a local one tell me $350 used unknown working or not.

That eBay one for $15 would be worth the risk for an 83 model replacement.

just adding relevant info from the ebay listing

Did you check Cyclepsycho?

Or another cheaper alternative, is people parting out a bike, as they are more willing to negotiate, than someone in the business.

I have gotten to know my local salvage guy, and negotiate with him.

I have gotten him to the point that he does not charge me the Ebay going price anymore, he now gives me discounts, I let him know that I would rather buy parts from him locally, but i need to get a really good price, or I will buy from someone else.

I negotiated subcontracts, for Big Business for years, that paper work would put you to sleep, better than any sleeping pill

Has anyone tried a GL12 Rear Brake Master on a GL11?

GL12 they are newer parts so maybe more used parts availability.

all i`ve seen so far is talk and reasons it wouldn`t work, 3 issues are/were mounting points, splitter is built in and hookup to the brake pedal is diff

i was looking for an easy mod (exactly like this, something newer that could be substituted) when i stumbled on a post where someone already did it using a gl18 m/c

(above link from first post)

seeing as that has been done, there are then a ton of alternative options out there, one important note is the 83 gl11 rear m/c uses an external y splitter stock if going with linked brakes

Oh yes!!

I would much rather get a new GL1800 rear brake master especially since it has a slightly larger piston.

A larger piston, on a Master cyl. means you are pushing more fluid, this means more brake power.

Even just slightly lager means more power, it doesnt take much to make a good improvement.

Also rebuild kits are still available for the GL18.

So you would have a more powerful rear brake.

That is a great idea, That would be the way i would go

How can they sell that for only $15 bucks???? that is like giving it away, how could they make any money?

I rebuilt my Rear Brake master about three years ago.

I must be getting a Slow leak down.

You should replace all brake fluid anyway every two years.

I noticed this year my foot brake went all the way down to the frame.

I did a total brake fluid replacement. That fix me right up.

Brakes are excellent again.

I may have to keep a closer watch on the leak down to see when this starts to happen.

What problems is everyone else experiencing?

I see how they sell them so cheap.

It is Chinese.

I dont buy any safety equipment from china!!

I would rather buy used GL1800, Nissin brake master at least it is Japanese, I know I can trust the quality

A big problem only getting worse is the aluminum around the spring clip is corroding away.
This spring clip acts as a pedal up stop.
Bad design because if that spring clip pops out, so does the piston and you loose your rear brakes.

The next time I have any rear brake problems, I'm modding in something new as a replacement, though for safety I really should do this before there's a problem.

Agreed! Currently, there are no consistently enforced standards for materials in China. It is a real big issue in the maritime sector.

bottom line is lotsa good used originals out there, same part was widely used and can be easily modded (via a bracket) to fit, just like the gl18
