I bought my 1980 GL1100 6 years ago, with the idea that I wanted to build a monoshock rear suspension on it. I originally thought I would make it an on/off road scrambler, but it's way too heavy. I lost interest, and it sat for years while I built other bikes. Last year I decided I would finish it and ride it in a Reliability Rally. It morphed into a kind of streetfighter or hooligan bike.
In September I rode it in WV in a rally, and it was a huge success. Of my old bikes, I trust my old GL more than any other.
