I was wondering if anyone has done any kind of upgrade to a GL1200 Aspencade radio? I have had a couple of the stock ones now on my bike and have not had much luck with the cassettes working and now the radio I have, the cassette doesnt work anymore and the FM part of the radio is just static.
I was running my Ipod through a frequency cable but cant even do that now that the FM doesnt work.
Since the radio is integral with the intercom I suspect going with another aftermarket radio is going to be hard.
Just wondering what others might be doing.
For now on long trips I am using my earphones and Itouch.

I installed a Jensen on my 85 Aspy.

Do you still have the intercom system?
i would like to know the answer too. i thought about using a kenwood or sony radio that i have but i listen through my headset and i'm sure i would loose the capability to use my headset with either of those radios

Check with sierra electronics https://www.sierra-mc.com about repairing your original system. They do excellant work and this may be the best route finacially. The can probably even add an IPOD plug for you.
Sierra specialize in goldwing audio and have been repairing the for years.Great people.

Otherwise if you use a auto stereo you can change to a J&M 2003 intercom/cb unit and use the H-D harness to intergrate the stereo to it.That is what I have on my 1100 and it works great.

but mine is a 1200 and i already have a cb. if i didn't i'd get the j&m unit

I understand that, that is why I said call SIERRA.They are the goldwing audio experts. If anyone can help they can.

The reason I suggested the J&M is that I believe it is the only way to intergrate an automotive radio with a CB and intercom. You would have to scrap all your honda stuff and start over.
That would suck, call SIERRA and have your original equipment repaired.

Really call sierra.

If you or any one on the boards have a used working or not radio sitting around I would gladly take it off your hands. I recently bought an 84 gl1200 aspencade that came without a radio and I desperately need one but only have enough money for shipping to spend on one. If you have one laying around in the way please PM me here and let me know I will gladly take it off your hands for you.
